Choose Your Own Adventure
IntroductionTwo pieces of advice I'll offer: visit the campus before applying to check out the size, classes, landscape, party scene, food, etc. And if you do decide this place is for you, APPLY EARLY. And once you're here, figure out your classes and schedule as soon as possible: in a school with 35,000 students, classes are bound to fill up, and QUICK!
Campus Life and Social LifeThe foundation of all the parties you hear about at FIU are club events, with party flyers EVERYWHERE. Sports are pretty big at FIU and there's a lot of school spirit. There are dozens, maybe hundreds of clubs to choose from, representing a range of student interests. Weekends are never spent on campus. In fact, FIU campus is hardly a campus and it isn't built for campus life. Area shops close early, so if you run out of tampons at 1am, make sure you know where your local 24 hour Walgreens is...

AcademicsAcademics at FIU are as bipolar as can be. There are INCREDIBLE teachers, renowned authors, and professors who have taught at the best schools in the country. Unfortunately, there are also 25-year-old Grad Students teaching classes. Some teachers take their classes very seriously, while others are in and out within 20 minutes. Teacher Aides are a plus in bigger classes because they are much more easily accessible than the teachers. The workload of the classes at FIU really varies by professor, but then again that's what www.ratemyprofessor.com is for, right?
Student BodyBeing situated in Miami is one of the greatest assets of FIU. Students come from all sorts of different backgrounds: you be sitting in class surrounded by Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Nicaraguans, Caucasians, African Americans and Argentinians...among many others. Because the school has 35,000 students, you will find people that are into anything you can think of. Wanna go fishing this weekend? Fetish Parties your thing? You'll find a group here. The possibilities are endless.
In Closing...Good luck in your college search!
