Florida State
IntroductionMany people party here...a lot. I actually transferred from UF to FSU because, let's face it, FSU is the place to be for political science. UF and FSU party scenes were pretty equal, but, there is one difference, FSU has an actual city surrounding it where people can get into more trouble because of Tallahassee being a... diverse city. What I mean is, there is the nice area, along Monroe St., where all the government buildings are, and there are the ghettos, such as along Tennessee St. where cops will tell you to not walk on at night because of risk of getting robbed (I was told this by a cop once).
Campus Life and Social LifeLike I previously mentioned, people party here a lot. At least most people. Well they DRINK a lot. But my friends at UCF and definitely at UF do the same. Even my ex-boyfriend who went to Dartmouth drinks like a fish-and not water either. It is the way college is. Intramural sports and football are of course major themes here, and why shouldn't they be? The stadium is quite impressive. Clubs are an integral addition of things to do here as they help you connect with others who are like minded. Such as people who do not party as much and want to get into John Hopkin's Medical School, so they study night and day. The weekends, for the most part, are full of partying and drinking in celebration of... I have not figured that out yet.

AcademicsUnfortunately many kids here, as is the case with most state schools, rarely hit the books. Which is unfortunate because FSU has some great academic programs, especially in business (in the top 30 public programs in the nation), the arts programs (theater is like number 3 in the nation), and common pre law programs like criminal justice and political science (which is why I transferred). The engineering and science programs are better at UF. The academic advisors and professors are extremely nice and helpful. The career center is also very valuable. Though, again, none of these are especially utilized here.
Student BodyA lot of the kids here, want to party and make it by. You will find that at basically every state school. Some kids actually have goals though. They study really hard and hit the books at the 24-hour Stroizer library every night in order to make those top grades to get into the top business, medical, law, graduate schools or just to get into the top jobs and internships to get well connected for their futures.
In Closing...FSU has a beautiful campus, newly renovated dorms (except for a few communal halls), has a moderately large city surrounding it, a diverse student population, a huge party life (a plus or negative depending on the circumstances), huge greek life, school spirit, great academic programs, and good helpers. Since I lived at UF and FSU for a year each, I can only describe the differences between each school in a sentence. UF is quieter and the "calmer" of sorts, while FSU's environment is much less calm and quiet. The colors really describe each school well, UF is blue and orange and FSU is garnet and gold. Each school has its own personality, and you just have to find which one speaks most to you.
