Not bad if you know what you're getting into
IntroductionI chose this school mainly because I knew its education was pretty decent and a good group of my friends were going here. Your education will be of good quality, especially if your are doing arts or liberal studies; our music program is ranked very high in the nation, for example, and there are a multitude of literature/philosophy/abstract-thinking classes for the inquisitive thinker. I've heard our sciences are not as good as UF's but certainly not bad. We have some very powerful research programs here. And, of course, our athletics (football) are top notch, but you would probably already know that if you're interested.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere are plenty of clubs if you've got the interest and the time. In fact, the common area (the Union) is always riddled with people handing you flyers and trying to promote their organizations. At least it's a perfectly good host of diverse ideas; you can find almost anything here. Our sports are very strong, and if you're a spectator, you will have a lot to enjoy going to our football games and even alternative events like our circus. There are always tons of parties - if you want it to be, this is the best party school around - but I usually don't care for it. There are plenty of mild-mannered people to chill with, and there are plenty of people to get trashed with, if you so desire; we're big enough to have all of it here. I can also say that Greek life has never gotten in my way, despite its popularity here, so that's a plus.

AcademicsOur music program is apparently incredibly good. So is our film school, and our school of dance is apparently very strong, too. I've heard our math program is not so hot. I had a TA teach me Calc II, and I thought she did a terrible job, possibly due to lack of teaching experience. A real, seasoned professor would've handled it a lot differently, and I'm sure I would've learned the material much better. I've herad this happens all too often in the math department. Some TAs can be excellent, however. I'm in Computer Science, and I've had some very great TAs who understand how to teach (how to speak effectively, convey ideas) and want to see the students do well. I've never really had a bad professor here, and I've certainly had some great ones, so if you get a class with a professor (which is likely), you'll probably enjoy his/her teaching.
Student BodyA lot of students are from the Tampa or Miami area. A lot of them are into drinking, partying, and clubbing - that kind of thing. However we have enough students that you can almost certainly find a group of people that likes what you like. As students, I've found the Computer Science students are piss poor, and their complaining, defeatist attitude disgusts me. Other majors are very friendly, tight-knit groups; it all depends. But if you're an excellent student, be prepared to meet a lot of average dudes who may or may not suck at life.
In Closing...There's opportunity here to do whatever you want, either in academics, social life, or athletics, to a pretty satisfying degree. You probably wont find the best academic programs in the world (although they are not bad - some are great), unless you're into our arts programs, but if you're willing to make that sacrifice for other reasons (your friends go here, it costs less, etc.) and you know what you're getting into, it can be great.
