Best Choice I Ever made

Rating: 5/5 (1 ratings)
Introduction
When I was applying to colleges, there was one thing I was sure of; I wanted to go to school in a city. I always thought I would end up at NYU, but after applying and getting in, I took a tour and hated it. I realized I wanted to be in the city, as well as have a campus life. Fordham was the place for me. If you're looking for a large party scene on campus, it's not a Fordham. Though Fordham kids love to party it's usually of campus because the housing policies are a bit strict.

Campus Life and Social Life
You looking for a big sports school? Don't come to Fordham. Are you looking to be involved in inturmural sports, clubs, campus life? Fordham has it all, and are always looking to expand the campus life. Partying? HUGE. Fordham was ranked the biggest party school in NYC when I was there ('03-'07). Don't get me wrong the academics are challenging. Fordham kids work hard and party hard.

Academics
I would say the academics are solid. There rankings continue to climb every year. Business school is good, specifically the accounting department is very popular. I was in Fordham college, but minored in the business school. I feel Fordham gave me a very well rounded education, however some of the core requirements were a bit much.

Student Body
Fordham is a very unique school. It's a city university, however if you're in the middle of the campus you'd think you were somewhere in CT. The population wasn't as diverse as I would have hoped, which was a bit disappointing. Not many students follow our sports teams, school clubs are popular as well as Student Govt. The weekends are a mixed experience. It all depends on your friends. I happened to have friends who spent every weekend at Fordham, so we'd either go out to the Fordham bars off campus or an off campus house for parties, or head down to Manhattan (20mins away by shuttle). There were the kids however who lived in NY,NJ or CT and went home every weekend. As I mentioned before, there isn't a party scene on campus, all the partying and nightlife occurs locally (bars and off campus apartments) or in Manhattan.

In Closing...
I loved Fordham for many reasons. I came away with life-long friends, a great education, access to the city and amazing internship experiences. It's not the school for everyone, I know that. For someone who is looking to be in a city environment, but also have the close, community feel of a college campus, Fordham is the place for you.
