Fantastic
IntroductionGW has been fantastic; it’s a great school, great opportunities. The biggest thing that brought me here was the environment. It’s a city school, which I was looking for and you utilize the city a lot. Most importantly- the extracurricular activities. The classroom experience is only one component of the college.
Campus Life and Social LifeWGW is the radio station. I’m the general manager here. And my major is electronic media which is great because it’s a combination of radio and television production and management so I get both sides of the coin there. But I also get the practical experience of being around here in the station and taking what I’m learning in the classroom and putting it to use on a daily basis. I
Academicsnternships are great because we’re in a major city, so you have especially in the nation’s capital, you have the American Institute of blank, or the Academy of blank, so if you want to get involved with anything in politics, the press, anything like that. You’re in the nation’s capital so that opportunity is there for you. Most professors encourage internships; students usually do 2 or 3 internships while they’re here. We really do stress it because you’ve got the city at your fingertips and the experience at your fingertips so you might as well use it. I interned at WHFS, an FM radio station here, helped out with their production dept. and promotions dept. And actually I’m lucky enough now, I’m interning at XM satellite radio, which is based solely out of DC here.
Student BodyThe social scene’s great, I mean you got the city in DC right at your fingertips. You got Dupont Circle, Georgetown, Adams Morgan, you got all these areas of the city to go out to bars. You can go get a bite to eat. You can go meet other students in DC. We also got Virginia and Maryland close by so you got all those students as well. And you’ve always got events going on in the city, whether they’re free, paid, you got everything going on from concerts, movies sporting events. You’ve got a major city to kind of learn to navigate, learn to have fun in and that’s one of the best things.
