GW
IntroductionIf you are looking for the typical college campus, then this is NOT the place for you. GW's campus is very unique and definitely ties in both the university and the city. GW does have a distinct campus but it is heavily influenced by the city.
Campus Life and Social LifeSocial life is very good at GW. There are always frat parties, clubs, dorm parties, and many other things going around campus and DC. However, many places you have to be over 21 to go to so your first few years are a little more restricted as to what you can do. Weekends typically start on Thursdays. GW is a fairly decent party school...I would say it is about average compared to all other colleges.
AcademicsThe difficulty of classes depends on what you are taking. Political Science classes and International affairs are fairly challenging. The freshman writing program, University Writing can range from being extremely difficult to extremely easy depending on your professor. All of the classes are taught by professors, some of which who have done amazing things before becoming professors. A lot of them have a lot of experience in their fields and definitely know what they are talking about. GW has a great social science department and very good law and medical schools. The engineering school is small but decent. All other areas are alright but nothing special.
Student BodyA lot of the students come from rather wealthy suburbs and cities. Although there are a lot of people from the same type of background, GW is very diverse and has students from all over the country and world. You will find people who have done all sorts of amazing things and have very different experiences to share. A lot of the students tend to dress fairly well. Many of the students tend to be fairly independent and self-motivated and come to GW for the internships and opportunities that DC has to offer. The student body is very involved in campus events as well as DC events.
In Closing...GW is a very modern and ever-changing school. It has undergone much change in recent years and is continually upgrading its current facilities and building new ones. Due to the political nature of the school, a lot of the organizations tend to be fairly beaucratic and political. The school spirit is a little lacking but is very present at basketball games. Overall, GW is a great school with great opportunities but does have some red tape that is irritating at times. It is a very safe, fun, and overall great atmosphere to live in.
