Hail to the buff!

Rating: 5/5 (61 ratings)
Introduction
GW is a school that actually cares about its students. The classes can be challenging, but not totally overwhelming. There is a pretty strict core curriculum, but there are also tons of options within that. I would recommend taking the Dean's Seminars freshman year. Dean's Seminars are open only to freshman, and they are courses created and designed by teachers that have an interest in a particular subject. These classes are small and because the teacher created it themselves chances are they really enjoy teaching it which makes the learning process so much better. Also, it pays to work hard... literally! Although GW is very expensive, they are also very willing to reward you if you have good grades.
One of the reasons I chose GW was because it is in a great city, but it sort of has its own space. Basically all of the buildings surrounding you belong to GW, and you have to go several blocks to get into the real city. So even though there isn't really a campus, you know when you're walking down the street everyone you pass is a student.

Campus Life and Social Life
Social life at GW is good. There are plenty of things to do throughout the week, and weekends (which actually begin Thursday night) are never boring. It isn't hard to find a party to go to, but there are also lots of concerts and shows on and off campus that you can go to. The only problem is that DC pretty much shuts down on Saturday and Sunday, so it might be hard to find a place to eat lunch off campus.
Academics
All of the departments have their strengths and weaknesses. Specifically, the Psychology department is really great. From my personal experiences, the professors have been amazing and I've managed to select courses that are challenging but aren't too much to handle. If you study and show effort, the professors will see that and you will be rewarded. If the class is really big, usually there is a TA who you can talk to if you have questions or problems, but even in that case you can probably schedule an appointment with your actual professor.

Student Body
GW does get labeled as being full of rich kids, which isn't a total lie, but there is also a huge mix of students. There are those who really focus on their classes and aren't really into the social scene, and there are also those who should probably focus a little more on their classes, but in general everyone maintains a good balance of partying and studying. There are students from all across the country and the world, so chances are you can find people who have similar interests to you.

In Closing...
For me, GW has been a wonderful experience and I'm happy I made the choice to go there. There really is something for everyone here, and Washington DC is a beautiful and amazing place to live. There is so much going on around you every day, and I can't think of a better way to spend four years of my life.
