Solid School

Introduction
I chose GW because of its urban location. Being in DC is a huge advantage not only for social life but also academically: the Smithsonian museums are an incredible resource and the opportunities for internships are unparalleled. GW students definitely need to be independent learners to a certain extent because professors are going to expect that you use the city's resources without them telling you.

Campus Life and Social Life
Our Men's Basketball team provides excellent sports entertainment on campus. Off-campus, the Wizards, Capitals, and Nationals are another great means to satisfy your sports viewing fix. As for parties, parties on-campus are mainly confined to individual dorm rooms. There are frat parties here, but be prepared for long lines and the extreme likelihood of not even getting a beer once you're in. As for the city off-campus, the Georgetown area has restaurants and shopping, and all over DC are clubs. The social life at GW is what you make it. Anyone can find something that suits his or her taste.

Academics
The workload at GW is moderate to heavy. You will definitely work more here than you did in high school. Gelman Library is a good place to study and do research. Professors are mostly good and are willing to help you if you ask for it. We have an annoying, mandatory Freshman writing course called UW20...but apart from that, classes are great and if you take academics seriously, you will definitely learn a lot. Professors know what they're talking about and are very informative.

Student Body
The typical student at GW is white, upper-middle to upper-class, and very mainstream. Popped collars, Polos, and Uggs are like GW's uniform. Which is not to say that people who don't fit this description can't be found on campus. There are people of all kinds at GW and if you can't find someone to click with then you're probably not looking hard enough.

In Closing...
If you come to GW, you'll get a solid education and have some fun along the way. Don't let the seemingly-cookie-cutter student body turn you off to the school. If you love the location of the school, you'll probably love the school. You'll find friends easily and find your niche in the GW community too.
