Not in Wisconsin Anymore
IntroductionDC is like culture shock out here compared to life back in Wisconsin. The east coast preppiness, that’s something you don’t get in Wisconsin. You never see with a popped collar back home or any of that. Where as out here you see it all the time. It’s just something different. Personally I don’t think DC’s scary especially campus, I don’t think it’s scary. If you go out into the city late night, especially different parts of the city that can be scary. As long as you know where to go and when not to go certain places I don’t think it’s scary at all. This is DC; it’s the capital of our nation. There’s so much to do, to go explore. Like I love getting off campus and going to do different things in the city.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe freshman dorms they’re not that up to date compared to most comparable universities. Our dorm hasn’t been renovated in a while. But where the one freshman dorm that has the bathrooms in the rooms so that’s a real nice addition. We actually got to pick our own roommates this year. They had an online matching system where like you could look at everyone’s profile and then talk to different people and select your own roommate.
AcademicsDC’s definitely real pricey. Especially coming from the Midwest where everything is really cheap. The first month or so is definitely a big shock of how much more everything costs here. I can’t stand the dorm food…I’m definitely not having a meal plan next year.
There’s two cafeteria’s, one of them’s on the other side of campus….the first couple of weeks I was like ah this is great food, but after a while its all greasy, all fried food for the most part. They claim that they’re doing a lot to improve, I don’t know its still not just cutting it for me. For the most part we’re not a huge sports fan school. It was really disappointing going to the first game, seeing how few people were there.
Student BodyThe students are much more like Lisa Simpson here. Much more of your type A personality, pro-active, let’s go study, do our homework, but the same time they definitely know how to have fun on the weekends.During the week, they’re Lisa Simpson, on the weekend they become Bart. The dating scene at least among freshman is pretty non-present. It’s more of just a lot of random hookups on the weekend.
