The U.S. Isn't Alone?

Rating: 4.9/5 (69 ratings)
Introduction
I’m from southern California, I am a sophomore. I am a sociology major with a theater minor. I love Georgetown. I think it’s about, people that are here really make the campus, your friends that you make, really have a huge impact on your experience here. I want to go abroad my junior year, so that’s like a big part of Georgetown. They really stress that aspect. In the college you have to take at least four semesters or two intensive semesters of a foreign language, but to go abroad we have a bunch of programs in English speaking countries. And all you really have to have are good recommendations and a relatively good GPA.

Campus Life and Social Life
I try to make it to every class. My classes, most of them take attendance and there’s a policy in the college that you can’t miss more than 3 classes or your grade gets dropped. It’s a rarity if someone is always missing class because you really can’t do well in the class if you don’t go. Even in the big classes you have TA’s and you have discussion sections so if you don’t go to those and you’re not doing you’re reading you’re not going to lectures and you don’t have questions. They know and they call you out on it. Kids who skip classes here are not talked about too well. ..It’s almost like they’re coming here and they’re just cheapening their experience I feel.

Academics
I feel safe on campus. I have never felt like threatened at all on campus…you like walk around 3 or 4 o clock in the morning by yourself and I’ve never really felt like I was in any kind of danger. There’s always a Dobbs officer, at least like their car down the street, there are blue lights everywhere. Somebody’s always up walking around. All of the dorms there are security guards so if there was a problem somebody would hear you.
It’s never a good idea to walk around by yourself at night, especially as a female, especially if they know you go to Georgetown. Cause there’s that stereotype that you have money on you and stuff. In terms of walking around in the Georgetown area I always feel pretty safe.

Student Body
There’s a policy that you’re not allowed to have alcohol in the dorms but they just changed it to where you can have empty alcohol container so you don’t get in trouble for those. We have dry dorms, you’re only allowed to have alcohol in your room if your 21. I enjoy the social scene at Georgetown’s campus. My friends are very diverse and some of them don’t go out but most them do. On any given night there is usually some kind of club event you can like go into the city and go to like a dance club. There’s always some kind of party on campus. They’re not in the dorms obviously, but you can go to the on campus apartments, off campus houses. Any given night you will probably know of two or three parties that you can just go to, if you know people who are having them. I don’t feel like there’s a lot of pressure to drink if you go out. I mean there is drinking, but like not forced to.
