Not for all, but definitely for some!

Introduction
To the high schooler considering Georgia Tech, you need to visit the campus and check out the facilities to even begin to understand the nature of this school. You're probably considering the school for an engineering degree. Keep in mind that Tech takes that field extremely seriously, and you'll be thrown right into some of the toughest coursework of your life. Talk to engineers first and make sure it's what you want to do. A good number of students at Tech start out as engineering prospectives and switch to other majors once the coursework gets too in-depth. Don't be scared to go to Tech for something other than engineering, though!

Campus Life and Social Life
Social life at Tech is confined mostly to Greeks. All students regardless of major will be spending most of their time studying, but the Greeks seem to be the only ones that get any partying in. If you're male there is a fraternity for you including traditional, athletic, cultural, religious, and video-game oriented fraternities. There are fewer sororities, but they are huge. The Institute's not known for it's girl population, but the infamous "Tech ratio" of 7 men for every 3 girls evens out a lot when you get involved in clubs and organizations. They say it's because most of the super nerdy guys won't leave their rooms. Tech can still cater to the social type as long as you will work hard in and out of the classroom. Campus is a nice place with a big Greek district, plenty of green space, an amazing gym, and a decent student center. And Atlanta speaks for itself (amazing city! a lot of cool stuff is walking distance from the campus). You make time for fun by working harder during the week. Oh yeah, and football in the fall is something you should never miss!
Academics
Well, academics are why anyone comes to Tech. The academic philosophy seems to be that Tech will give most people a chance, but if you can't learn to teach yourself everything and put in the hours you will fail out. It makes the ones that get through the first two years far tougher mentally and also way prouder of their degree. Engineering students here work harder than most college students would ever dream of. Other tough majors include Architecture, Industrial Design and any traditional science like Bio, Chem, Math or Physics. Majors known for being easier are the liberal arts and the degree in management, although management students are proud to remind you that it's a higher ranked business degree than UGA's program. Just accept this one thing if coming to Tech: You will work hard or fail out. Don't hate it...it makes your degree that much better. I've survived three years of it by learning where to get study help and how to manage my time. Stress relief is important, so places like the gym and the restaurants, clubs and bars in Atlanta are vital to your academic health.

Student Body
Despite what depressed Tech students may say, there is a place for every kind of person at Georgia Tech (assuming you're a hard worker). The student body is very diverse. Many of the top students are foreign while many of the most social students are the "traditional" fraternity/sorority types. You can meet people from many different countries and from all over the US. Chances are you'll do a group project with someone that is nothing like you. The only people that are rare at Georgia Tech are slackers.

In Closing...
Tech stands in stark contrast to other big state universities in the South. Instead of a tough application period students that get past the "mental boot camp" of the first two years of core science and math classes truly earn the right to stay at the school and finish their degree with pride. Traditions are really important, and there are a bunch of them! They all center around the students being proud of themselves and the things they achieve (sometimes with direct reference to a certain school in Athens). But the prospective student that is certain of what they want out of Tech can get in, work hard, get out, and be way prouder than if they had gone to a school that was merely run-of-the-mill. To sum it up: Georgia Tech wants you only as badly as you want it.
