GSU is ehhh

Rating: 4/5 (53 ratings)
Introduction
Georgia State University was my first pick for a college that I wanted to attend once I graduated high school. A friend of mine mentioned the school at lunch one spring day in 2004 and I decided to see what the unviversity was about. I checked the campus out in November 2004, was accepted in January 2005 and arrived as a freshman August 18 2005. I have lived on campus all my time here (as I do not live in Atlanta) and have had roommates both good and bad. School wise it's been pretty easy.

My advice for freshmen/women coming here is to keep your priorities in order. Being a college student in Atlanta can lead one to temptation, but as long as you study first and party later I think you'll see that college is pretty easy.

Campus Life and Social Life
I'm not the most partying of people. When I was 18 and a freshman I attended quite a few clubs and college events. Now that I'm 20, I've pretty much given up on that aspect. I'm a metalhead anyways, so I usually go to concerts than "clubbin" although Atlanta has tons of clubs to go to.

Living in the dorms has been a pretty crazy experience. My first year at GSU I had 5 roommates and we got along like brothers. My sophomore year I had 3 roommates that all sucked and were just unpleasant people to be around. And now as a junior I have 3 roommates that are all younger than me, so the age gap comes into consideration even though I get along with my new roommates ok.

On weekends, one can party to their heart's content unless one has an exam coming up or a paper due. Even still, one can party to their heart's content. It's pretty easy to make friends here and if you know the right connections you can hit all the hot spots of Atlanta. Like I stated earlier I'm not much a partier, so my knowledge on the subject is limited. But I still know that one can have fun in Atlanta.

Academics
I'm a journalism major and so far my classes have ranged from super easy, to downright difficult. Take for instance my Journalism and Law class that I'm taking this semester. Great class, wonderful professor, but hard material. Still it helps in the long run and I know that GSU's journalism program will help me get where I need to go.

The foreign and classical languages department is good, especially the Italian class which I encourage everyone that reads this to take. The film program is also very good. I should also mention that GSU has one of the best business programs in the country. If you are a business major, this is the place for you. GSU is connected to Atlanta so it is fairly easy to find a business internship here.

Work wise, my classes have been fairly easy. In fact GSU is easier than my years in high school. So if that doesn't bring one comfort, I don't know what will.

Student Body
Pros: Fairly decent people, easy classes, nice dorms

Cons: Etremist liberal views. Im a liberal and even I am sick of the Uber PC nature here.
Bad traffic, some rude people, homeless problem.

In Closing...
GSU is a pretty good school. I'm a little tired of Atlanta though so I really want to graduate and for USC Columbia but that is another story. If you want an urban campus tpe of atmosphere you really can't go wrong. If you are looking for a more traditional college setting , than this isn't the place for you.
