Introduction
If you are considering coming to Gordon, make sure that you have the right motives for coming here. And really think carefully about whether or not this is the kind of environment that you are looking to spend four years of your life in because Gordon is so different from other schools, being a Christian school. If you decide that you want to spend your college career in a close-knit, community-oriented, Christian-centered environment, than maybe Gordon is the place for you.

Campus Life and Social Life
If you are looking for drunken toga parties, stay away cause you sure won't find them here. In fact, Gordon does not allow alcohol on campus and it is pretty strictly enforced although I personally know of kids who drink on campus. So some of the rules are really annoying, such as visitation - residence halls are separated by side or by floor so guys and girls have separate living quarters and we are only allowed to be in members of the opposite sex quarters during certain hours. However, although these rules may somewhat impair the quality of social life, I find that as long as you are normal and sociable, you will have friends here. The student population is about 1600 so everyone knows each other, which I actually really like, although it's not for everyone. The town of Wenham as well as some of the nearby towns, although pretty to look at, really don't offer a whole lot in terms of things to do. Fortunately, Boston is about 30 minutes drive or train-ride away. YOU NEED A CAR - trust me, your life will be so much better if you have a car so you can get off campus every now and then. Although we are only division 3, students are very supportive of our teams and the games can be really fun to watch.
Sometimes I feel like everyone is here to study - weekends can be really quiet as a lot of people leave campus or stay in their rooms, but if you seek out things to do you will be able to find them - overall, the quality of social life here is okay.

Academics
BE PREPARED.. if you found high school really challenging in terms of workload, think twice about coming here. Don't be fooled by Gordon's relatively high acceptance rate, the workload is extremely demanding and requires a lot of time put into studying. However, professors here are really nice and extremely willing to help - they all seem to truly enjoy teaching and that is why they are here, not just for research as is often the case at huge schools. Most of the TA's are upperclassmen, and there aren't enough of them, but again, they will do their best to assist you. If you don't know what you want to study, it doesn't really matter if you declare a major your first year anyway as you will be most fulfilling core requirements - Old Testament and New Testament are both required here as is CCC (Christianity, Character, and Culture) Seminar which you either love it or hate it.

Student Body
There is not enough ethnic or socioeconomic diversity within the student body - as a minority I can say that there are times when I feel underrepresented here. However, everyone is really welcoming to people from different backgrounds, so if you are a minority you don't have to worry too much about finding a group of friends. And although the student body seems to be mostly comprised of white, middle-class, Protestant Christians, there are many different student types here - preps, jocks, hippies, emos, etc.

In Closing...
Again, think carefully before deciding to come here because it is a very different lifestyle from other schools, especially secular. Make sure you visit and get a feel for what it is like first. If you are willing to commit to a Christian lifestyle and challenging academics, then it may be a very rewarding experience. Good luck!
