Faith + Work
IntroductionGordon is a Christian school, so if you're not a Christian, you're not going to appreciate or get as much out of this school and education as a Christian would. With that being said, Christians who come here need just as much self-motivation to pursue their faith. I think a lot of people come here with the notion that being in a Christian community automatically gives them a safety net, and that living righteously will come easier here. From experience, I must tell you that it is just as easy to fall into a state of complacency here as it is at any other school. A relationship with God takes effort, no matter where you are. I came here in part because I got a lot of financial aid help, and in part because this Christian school is much more liberal and less rule-minded than other Christian schools. Also, we have a pretty sweet community.
Campus Life and Social LifeGordon is outside of Boston to the north by about 30 minutes. The city is easily accessible but a trip there takes up an entire evening, and other than smaller cities located all over the place around Gordon, there's not too much to do. On the other hand, I have really enjoyed the creativity I've experienced here in making our own fun around campus. Sometimes it's a little boring, but there really are plenty of normal things to do (lazer tag, malls, restaraunts, cinemas) in the area if you're in the right mood. We have a dry campus, so there are next to no parties here, but I've heard of many off-campus. I'm not really much of a partier in the typical college party sense. As an aside, our campus is ranked something like #2 nationwide in terms of campus safety.

AcademicsThe academics here are apparently listed as being pretty high. I have never attended another school so it's hard for me to compare. The workload is heavy. And like I said, this is not a school to come to for parties- Gordon provides an excellent education. It's a liberal arts school. I'm a Communication Arts major and I like the professors in the department. Most of the professors I've had in any classes have been friendly, helpful, and have integrated faith and learning.
Student BodyI can't think of what the typical student here is like. I see the student body as being a mass of generally normal young adults who are frustrated and in a struggle to figure out what God requires of us and how He wants us to live. We are not a perfect student body by any means: we're too complacent oftentimes and too uninvolved considering the opportunities we have to make a difference in surrounding communities. I think the important thing, however, is that we are engaged in this thought process: most of us are earnestly seeking the right way to follow God's call. We have some racial and ethnic diversity, but not a ton. We like to have goofy college kid fun: sledding down hills on lunch trays in the winter, playing good-natured pranks, being random and sporadic.
In Closing...Gordon is great. I wouldn't have stayed as long as I have if it weren't.
