Where Everybody is Somebody!

Rating: 3/5 (67 ratings)
Introduction
Get good grades in your Senior Year. Learn the Southern way of living. Come here prepared to meet people from all walks of life. GSU is a great place if you are willing to learn. Don't get caught up in nonessential activities that take you away from achieving your goals. GSU chose me to be an ambassador for the school and at first, I wasn't thrilled because GSU wasn't my first choice, however, after finishing my freshman year, I have realized that college is about independence, but when you need help, GSU staff is here for you. I have grown to love GSU and I cannot wait for my 2nd year. GO GRAMBLING!

Campus Life and Social Life
Best things are Bayou Classic/ Homecoming/Founder's Day events.
Worst campus life: When it rains/. Weekends can be boring if you don't have a car or access to one. Bring lots of video games, movies/hobby items. If you are an avid reader, bring lots of books or subscribe to a book club. Lots of parties, but I don't party. Lots of clubs to participate in. Campus ministry is big now as well as the Greek life. The alumni really support the university but students need to have more pride and respect for the campus (i.e. littering).

Academics
My major is Kinesiology (Sports Management). Academics are challenging. My government/chemistry classes are interesting. Workload is heavier 2nd semester than the first semester. Most professors are helpful if you let them know you are serious about learning. Dr. Willie Daniels is a great guy. He helped me during academic advising and took a personal interest in my collegiate career path.

Student Body
Most are from Louisiana /local area. I am from Illinois. Typical population is approx 4,000 students. Interests vary. Compared to other HBCU's GSU is one of the best I've visited. Small town.

In Closing...
Affordable HBCU. Excellent band. Growing school. Check it out. If you like fast food, you might be disappointed in the limited choices available here, however, if you like soul food, you will be overwhelmed with the choices available.
