Life at the Real HU

Rating: 2/5 (97 ratings)
Introduction
Howard University is a school for those who enjoy doing. Pick just about any activity and it's available. And if it's not, you can find it somewhere close by. My biggest advice would be not to be afraid to get out there and try stuff.

Campus Life and Social Life
Greek life is huge on Howard's campus; seven single-letter chapters, including five alpha chapters, of Divine Nine organizations are located on campus. But if you're not into that, there are a plethora of other opportunities for social interaction as well. On this campus, there's no excuse for not having your pick of social activities, and starting one that you can't find is incredibly easy.

Academics
The departments vary, but the overall average is pretty good. Architecture, Business, and Engineering all have great reputations. Law and Divinity are also highly thought of, if you're looking for a graduate school. One problem (or strength) might be a lack of standardization in the individual departments; how much work one receives, and how hard it is definitely varies from professor to professor.

Student Body
Our student body is mostly of African descent, though that should not discourage those who are not from considering Howard. It's a big friendly place, and I love it. The most distinct thing about students here is that they all seem to find their niches, and fit them in with schoolwork comfortably.

In Closing...
Howard University has a few problems, but so does every university. The best thing to do is to visit. Come see if you feel at home here. The few problems that Howard does have are vastly overshadowed by its strengths.
