The place to be!
IntroductionThe reason I chose Huntington was because of its small size. I had come from a large high school, and was looking for a bit of a change. The small student body provides many opportunities to get involved on the campus, and it also encourages a tight knit community. If a student is looking for a larger school, this is not the school for them.
The other thing that appealed to me about Huntington was its heart for providing their students with an education that is founded in Christ. Huntington’s heart is for their students to feel prepared academically for their desired vocation, but the campus also provides opportunities for spiritual growth while you are here.
Campus Life and Social LifeHuntington is a very active campus. Most of our student body is involved in some way; whether it be theater productions, music, sports, or other social activities on campus (like our volunteer services, student government, or social committee). There is an abundance of campus provided activities that you can look at on our web cite. The students at Huntington University do sign a lifestyle agreement. This document expresses that the student agrees by signing that they will not drink the four years that they are here at Huntington (even when you’ve turned 21). On weekends a lot of students travel up to Fort Wayne, (which is a much larger city) to relax and hang out. There are quite a few opportunities for social activities off campus as well as on campus.

AcademicsHuntington has a very solid academic program. We are best known for our education department as well as our ministry department. I’ve loved the professors in the history, ministry, and psychology department. They’ve been very good at articulating the information in the class as well as making class time enjoyable. I’ve heard rumors that our Physics professor is hilarious, but I have not taken the class myself … yet. I thought that our Biology department, while very good in preparing students for premed and nursing, was a bit intense for the general education biology classes. I’ve never worked so hard in a 111 class before. Over all, the work load is going to depend on what major you are in. Some professors depend mostly on tests and quizzes, while others seem to have a strange fetish for papers. I found it does take quite a bit more work than high school, but it is far more enjoyable.
Student BodyMost of our students are from the “Indiana, Michigan, Ohio” area, but we have students from all over the US as well as international students. The majority of our campus is white middle to upper class students. The lack of diversity is the one thing that the students at Huntington would like to see changed over the next few years. The majority of students on this campus are also Christians. We all come from a wide variety of denominations, so any denomination would feel comfortable here.
In Closing...The campus is small but beautiful. The students are friendly, and the opportunity for spiritual growth is wonderful. Come check it out!
