Idaho State
IntroductionI have never heard anyone from out of state satisfied with ISU.
Campus Life and Social LifeAt ISU, male athletes walk around like they own the school but they can't win a game. There's very little crime in Pocatello and the running joke is sort of,"there was a (insert crime here. robbery, murder, drive-by, etc.) the other night... wonder which ISU athlete will be arrested..." We get all of our athletes from Southern Cali and they're all gangsters. Our female athletes, on the other hand, are awesome but no one seems to notice. The partying that goes on is mostly at the one and only frat house and there are usually more high school kids there than college kids.

AcademicsThere are good and bad professors at ISU, but I'd say there are more bad ones than good ones. Our professors are underpaid, which makes them some of the most bitter people you've ever met in your life. Most of them seem like they love what they teach but they don't really love teaching it. The workload isn't bad, it's a state school and any idiot can get in so the professors tend not to go overboard with assignments or studying.
Student BodyThere's a very large number of non traditional students. In every class, you can be sure that there will be at least one person over the age of 35. In most classes, there are several. Most of them are ok, but you'll occasionally get the 70 year old guy on oxygen who corrects the professor, never fails to share his personal experiences, and takes the lectures completely off course. There are also a great deal of international students. If you're from out of state, you might want to learn a thing or two about the mormon religion before enrolling. The only classes that pertain to religion offered at ISU are offered at the LDS (mormon) institute and are therefore mostly classes about mormonism. Mormons dominate the city, there's a mormon church on every corner. This is nice in some ways, it keeps crime down. But in the last 2 months, I have been ambushed by two sets of missionaries (once in my BACKYARD), and two sets of "visiting teachers." It can be a really strange place to live.
In Closing...Housing is horrendous if you decide to live on campus, in the dorms. There are lots of nice apartments and nice little houses close by campus that are much better options.
