IIT's Alright.
IntroductionI would say come to IIT because of the academics and the experience. I chose to come here because of it's focus in the engineering and science field. Also, the architecture program is one of the best in the nation. The workload is tremendous so be ready to work for your grades, but there are many times where students find ways to have fun.
Campus Life and Social LifeGreek life is somewhat predominant here. Many of the parties are on the quad. There are many ways for people to get involved in clubs, but many students choose not to get involved for reasons including school work. Many weekends are interesting as students find interesting ways to do something, but many times there is nothing to do but go into the city of Chicago. Speaking of the city, the fact the "el" trains run through and stops in the campus is awesome. If there's something you need or need to get somewhere in the city, the el train will take you anywhere in the city.

AcademicsAcademics has a huge presence on campus. The workload is huge, but manageable with the right study skills. Time management is key. Students in the Architecture major should get ready to spend endless nights up late working on projects. The Biomedical Engineering major is also to said to have a heavy workload too, but in the end, EVERYONE works hard here. Professors are on the good side, as many can name all their students in the current classes. TA's on the other are a little junky. For instance, my Physics Lab TA barely speaks English well and doesn't really understand the labs itself.
Student BodyAhh... the "typical" IIT student. Many of us were geeks, nerds, and dorks in our high school. But, there are some of us here that are really sociable, but many students prefer to spend their nights in front of a computer playing video games. My hallway for one had a LAN party playing Warcraft. (I didn't join in because I don't play). The majority of the students are from Illinois, but many hail from Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, and all the other states. The more sociable people (like me) join the Greeks and that's where all the fun is.
In Closing...Coming here was the best choice for me because of the education I'm getting, plus the social life here is great. Many students want to and do find ways to have fun, but we all realize that our studies are our number one priority in college. My tip to all college freshmen would be to get involved, meet new people, and don't be afraid to speak your mind or do something crazy.
