City Life in the Middle of the Country
IntroductionI am a joint degree student getting a Master’s of Public Affairs and a law degree.
Campus Life and Social LifeWe’ve got a very good reputation for a big party school after the basketball team made it to the NCAA championship game a few years back.
I think it’s a fun party town. There are a lot of good things to do. Wednesday nights you can actually get drafts for 14 cents at the Bluebird so that’s pretty exciting compared to being other places.

AcademicsIndiana’s environmental policy program is #1 in the country…and the law school has a very good environmental law program as well.
Student BodyIn SPEA….there’s a lot of group work and so you work together with a lot of people. We have a number of international and foreign students that you also get to work with so we have a lot of great experiences with group work. It gets tough sometimes managing a lot of projects, but it’s more of the traditional class setting.
Indiana Hoosiers everybody’s known as kind of the basketball Midwest of the country. I’m a huge basketball fan, I always have season tickets, go to all the games. Assembly Hall is pretty amazing just because they keep the real traditional feel from a long time ago so you definitely have a good atmosphere when you go the games.
And there are some people who are just die hard basketball fans, so it’s definitely Hooiserland basketball country.
In Closing...I really love Bloomington a lot; I was a little tentative about staying around in the Midwest coming to college. But I think most people initially think of Indiana as pretty rural, but Bloomington is very different from the rest of Indiana. It’s got a lot of culture, a lot of art, music. It’s also a very environmental town and we obviously have a lot of sports.
I think that it has a real big city feel even though you’re in the middle of Indiana.
