Hooray for Hoosiers!

Rating: 4/5 (52 ratings)
Introduction
When I was a senior in high school...stratch that, when I was an EIGTH GRADER in middle school, Indiana University Bloomington was the only choice for my college career. I knew the name Bobby Knight before I found out who Christopher Columbus was (not to mention the afamed Kelly Business School shared names with my favorite Saved By The Bell character). Hoosier Hysteria was alive and sacred in my Northern Indiana town. After enrolling into their academic program (entering as a marketing major then abruptly switching into journalism after I took a gander at the math prerequisits), I walk around the landscaped campus in a state of complete awe- it was everything the brochures made it out to be. It is the most gorgeous layout I had ever seen and the the historic brilliance of the stone buildings was something worth being photographed. At first I was a bit taken back by the overwhelming populations of students and feared I would lack the one-one attention from teachers, but later found out that not to be the case. The proffessors are among some of the most unique characters I have ever met and they are very passionate about their subject and very willing to help you...all you need to do is ask. IUB is among the most culturally diverse of universities and offers you so many options for personal and academic growth. This college is something definitely worth giving a second, third, and fourth glance at!

Campus Life and Social Life
I'd say that every three minutes another party starts at IU. Beer Pong sometimes can be more common than going to class. Make-shift pong tables emerge from almost anywhere, anytime and those red, plastic pic-nic cups seems to be coming out of the walls. IU in notorious for its parties and will do everything in its power to keep that tradition alive. Sometimes it gets a bit annoying, seeming as its all a lot of students ever consider doing and on more than one occasion I've been the one stuck sitting next to the guy who still smells like Jack Daniels on Monday morning. But there is more to the IU student body than drinking. A lot of students here have a good time by partaking in one the numerous intermurral sporst offered at the HYPER building, going to a comedy show at the Union, or checking out some of the awesome ethnic restaurants downtown. Anything can happen in Bloomington, if you just look in the right places.

Academics
I generally follow the rule of thumb that academics are only as hard as you make them out to be. IUB proffessors don't expect miracles and Nobel Prizes out of students. They simply expect you to show up and do your work on time. When really frusterated with a grade in my class, I only have to look back and see that maybe I skipped a session one too many times or didn't read a chapter in the text because I was too busy with Facebook the previous nights. The work is never an overload. I think that it's designed with the student in mine to make sure they maintain their focus to get where they really need to be.

Student Body
In one word, the student body is BIG.

So many different people to get to know, so little time.

Normally one can point out a soriority girl or frat boy (just look for Ugg boots or a dreaded popped collar), but normally any assumptions you have of a person based on their appearance alone may be terribly wrong. After being at IU I've seen that many sterotypes are no longer relevant because there is such a wide variety of students, from all over the country...and the world. They're awesome. Just take a look at the tatooed kid with the nose ring sitting next to you in your genders class. You may be surprised to find out that he's double majoring in opera and gentics and plays a mean game of ultimate frisbee on the weekends.

In Closing...
Go Indiana!
