Love it or hate it... It's the place

Introduction
The biggest piece of advice that I would give to an upcoming high school senior about my school would be, if you can, to simply visit the school first. I didn't originally choose this school because of my major, because I came into college undecided. I choose this school because it's very close to where I'm originally from (Pittsburgh-about and hour away). I also chose this school because it's very cheap compared to other schools in the area. Don't get it twisted, just because the school is cheaper doesn't mean the education isn't exactly same as other schools or better. The Eberly School of Business is ranked in the top 114 in the nation.

Campus Life and Social Life
At IUP you get the best of both worlds. As I mentioned before, you get a great education. However, many people consider this a highly ranked party school. The opportunity for a student to study hard during the week, and go out on the weekend to let loose a little bit is always there. There is one main street at IUP called Philadelphia Street. This is where all the bars are located. Picture the main street in a small town, that would be our Philadelphia Street. As far as IUP sports goes, we offer every sport you can imagine. Our football and hockey teams are at the top of Division II. There is rumor that those teams want to jump up to the Division I level in a few years.

Academics
To be completely honest, academics at IUP are divided right down the middle. Half of the people here truely came to college just to party. The other half do their work, and know when it's time to let loose so they don't get to stressed out. I have mentioned how great the Eberly School of Business is already. The computer labs in Eberly are open 24 hours a day Sunday-Thursday, and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Some of the professors say that in terms of technology we have the best business school in the nation. I can't say for sure if this is true or not because I've only been to this school and no others. However, the amount of technolgoy in the Eberly building is almost ridiculous. Most of the professors at IUP are more than willing to give you help if needed. They are able to do this because in general we only have about 35-40 students per class. Not the usual 200+ that other universities have. Some of the professors here require a lot of course work, others are very easy. All you have to do is go to www.ratemyprofessors.com to figure out which professors to take.

Student Body
The "typical" student at IUP would be a student like myself. I accomplish everything that I need to get done during the week so I can go out and have fun on the weekends. Many students are able to live this lifestyle and achieve excellent grades. However, there are those that can't and those people should take it easy on the weekends. As far as the demographics, about half the people here are from Pittsburgh, and the other half are from Philadelphia. I think when the Steelers play the Eagles, this may be the best place on earth. I said half from Pittsburgh and half from Philadelphia generally, we also have a variety of foreign students. There are also some students from other places scattered across the United States.

In Closing...
I would just like to elaborate on what I said in the opening. If you have the chance to visit IUP before enrolling, by all means you should do so. It's a great atmosphere
