ISU = Corn Fed Farm Girls
Rating: 2.1/5 (21 ratings)
IntroductionIowa State is a big school with more of a small school feel. About 27,000 students go to ISU but once you get into your core program classes you'll will get to know students in your classes much better.
Campus Life and Social LifeAnother perk about ISU is the division 1 athletics. If you're a sports fan, you'll like being able to go to Big 12 games and becoming a Cyclone fan.
As far as nightlife goes, there are a few options for underage drinking. Risk drinking in the dorms, which isn't that risky; go to a house party, but expect these to be packed so you have to jockey for position at the keg for several minutes per refill; or get a fake ID and take your chances at getting into the bars, which some are harder to get in than others. I did enjoy the bar scene at ISU. With a variety of bars to choose from in about a block's radius, you can wander aimlessly, bar to bar until closing time at 2 am then go after bar at a friend's.

AcademicsAs for the overall feel for the university, the campus is one of the nicer ones in the country in my opinion, one reason I made the choice to go to ISU and it's not too big either. All of your classes are walkable if you live on campus.
Student BodyIf you think you want to be in the greek system (frat/sorority) this would definitely be a good choice for school. If you don't want to be in a frat/sorority and hate frat boys and sorority girls you would be well advised to look at other schools because the greek system is way too popular at ISU.
In Closing...Greek system way too popular and important at ISU.
Not a great ratio of girls to guys, I think it's something like 60/40 guys. Plus, lot of corn fed farm girls, if you get my drift, which is weird because the U of I is the opposite. To land girls you're much better off being in a frat or being an athlete.
