Good School, Great Parties

Rating: 2/5 (6 ratings)
Introduction
I chose this school because I am a guy and the girl/guy ratio is ridiculously awesome. The professors seem pretty understanding for the most part and I haven't had a bad one (or overly challenging) one yet. Having said that, you do need to pay a moderate amount of attention in class or you'll fall behind. Lots of smart kids here and great academics to support them means you've got to put in some time (in between parties, that is).

One other major defining feature of the school is that the kids here are freakishly nice and welcoming. Want to make friends? Go to JMU.

Campus Life and Social Life
The parties are AWESOME. A lot of other schools will charge a cover for parties, but NEVER at JMU. There are almost too many girls here, if that is even possible. So many that it's almost hard to find cool guys to hang out with.

Enforcement: the cops don't care if you're drunk as long as you dont make an ass out of yourself or out of them. Just be smart about getting wasted. It's common sense.

Our sports teams could use some improvement, but our football team did win the National Championship two years ago. Weekends are pretty much party time every night, but if that's not your thing there are multiple alternatives including nearby movie theaters, plays, and guest speakers. But I don't recommend choosing JMU if you don't drink at all, just because that's what most of the kids here do and you'll feel somewhat out of the loop.

Academics
Academically, JMU is pretty good. The reputation is respectable and people know where it is. The college is constantly growing and improving, too, so its status will be ascending even more in the next few years.

The professors are pretty good, but use ratemyprofessor.com for more specific information when scheduling. Freshman year workload is pretty easy overall, as long as you put some time and effort into it and don't go out on weekdays. I have only had a TA for one class when my professor was sick, and I currently have a grad student teaching my Introductory Writing class, but all other classes were tought solely by professors, and they were great.

Student Body
The typical student is a rich girl from the Northeast. There are lots of these, and it seems like more people are from New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York than are from Virginia. There are a lot of rich, preppy guys too and most of them are - I'll say it - douchebags. Everyone spends enough time at the college gym to stay hot...lots of hotties here.

In Closing...
Great parties, lots of girls, free beer, a great gym, GOOD FOOD. This place rocks.
