JHop is what you make of it

Rating: 4/5 (46 ratings)
Introduction
Hopkins is extremely tough academically, and sometimes it feels like work is all that the students care about. But theres is more to life here! Basically, Hopkins is what you make of it. You can study all the time, or you can drink all the time. Or you can find a balance between those, and have time to work out, relax, do community service, get involved with campus life and anything else you want to. What is frustrating is that opportunities rarely come to find you here, you need to seek out what you want.

Campus Life and Social Life
Theres a lot to do around here--if you're willing to look for it. The school itself is pretty weak in the social life department; however, Baltimore is full of cool places to visit and things to do. On campus, there are frat parties and it's relatively easy to get away with drinking.

Clubs are abundant--you should have no trouble finding something of interest. If you do, you can start your own and the school will provide funding. There are clubs of every genre, ranging from sports to video games to cooking.

Sports options are plentiful as well. The newly renovated Rec Center has basketball, squash, racketball, swimming, and a climbing wall, as well as fully stocked weight and cardio rooms. Additionally, there is a strong intramural program during all the seasons--basketball, volleyball, quickball, waterpolo...the list goes on.

Academics
THE WORK IS EXTREMELY HARD. From what I hear, we get graded harder than other, comparable schools. You can either sit here and bitch about it, or just do your work. It's Johns Hopkins. It's supposed to be tough. You don't get in unless you have and are prepared to work hard, so if you are considering coming here, don't let the thought of hard work be a deterrent.

Student Body
The student body is very diverse. In addition to ethnically mixed, personalities are mixed as well. You have jocks, frat people, nerds, geeks, dorks, and just straight up weird people. But, for the most part, people here are friendly, if a little awkward. Our pre-meds have a reputation for being cut-throat, and that is true sometimes, but people will generally stop and help if you need it.

In Closing...
Come visit, stay over, and you should be able to tell if this is the place for you.
