Oh, Johnny Hop

Introduction
Johns Hopkins is a wonderful school academically, if you are motivated enough to take initiative and take advantage of all the opportunities available. There are wonderful professors (in the school of arts and sciences, at least) who, if you reach out to them, are more than willing to share their brilliance. However, if you are looking for an easy time, Johns Hopkins is NOT--I repeat--NOT for you. The classes are demanding, the library is the most social place on campus, and it's pretty easy to get swept away in the grind. So, my advice is to steal as much as you can, academically, from a school that robs you blind. But your really have to seek out opportunities.

Campus Life and Social Life
Social life? Really?

Let's just say it leaves something to be desired. Academics
Political science, sociology, and history are the only departments that I can personally speak to, but they are wonderful. The professors are all very knowledgable and approachable, and the classes are generally interesting. I have never had a problem getting into a class, finding something interesting and challenging, and making the most out of the departmental resources. The professors are all brilliant and generally engaging. There is a SHIT-TON of work.

Student Body
There are a whole range of people, and the only thing that unites them all is that they work HARD, even if they don't admit it. Everyone is secretly smart, and some feel more comfortable conveying that than others.

In Closing...
There really isn't a sense of community at Hopkins. You find a general group and stick with them, and the students are fairly disengaged from the larger world--aka they would rather party/study than actually help anyone around them or go to an interesting lecture. There is definitly something missing, as in, a soul, in most of them. That is really the hardest thing about being here, is the lack of interest from the majority of the student body in politics, the campus, the world, other than drinking and getting good grades.
