Kent is great!

Rating: 5/5 (61 ratings)
Introduction
Kent is great school to go to. It is a large school, but you never feel like you are lost in a crowd. The profs. are pretty good about knowing your name, and helping out with additional time after class. I picked this school b/c the school wasn't that far from home, but far enough to give me a feel of college life. Kent is a diverse school that focuses on higher education not only in the classroom but in a social aspect too. I myself came from a VERY small southern Ohio town, and by coming to Kent I met some great people from all over that I never would have met without coming to Kent State.

Campus Life and Social Life
Kent has the best social life! There are always things to do, the Rec is a great place to help fight off those "Freshman 15", and meet new pple. I met my roomate at Kent and is still to this day my best friend. When you turn 21 downtown is the place to be! Halloween rivals OU Athens. Frats and Sor.'s have some of the best parties! Its a great time without being in a huge setting where something could happen. I never lived on campus but from what I have seen most of the dorms are super nice. Clean, spacious (as spacious as a dorm can get) and its also a great setting to meet people.

Academics
Kent has a high, but achieveable standard for its students. I majored in the Human Development and Family Studies major and the prof.'s there are awesome. I had one that I actually used as a reference on my resume while I was job searching. When my current employer saw that I went to Kent they were impressed because they also went to Kent. Kent Alums are everywhere. If you went to the same school as a potential employer, your chances of getting hired are better than someone who didn't go to Kent. Kent States academics are known for producing high quality graduates who succeed in their field of concentration.

Student Body
Typical student at Kent is mainly Ohio resident, but there are some from PA and other neighboring states. Some are also from foreign countries studing abroad. The student body has more girls than it does boys, at least it did a year ago when I was there, everyone is pretty normal. There aren't any really big "cliques", of course the frats and sor.'s hang together but they aren't rude or snobby. Kent has a nice blend of backgrounds when it comes to the student body.

In Closing...
Kent State has a very low crime rate. That was very comforting to my parents when I chose to go to Kent. Safety is always an issue and Kent has tons of campus security, well lighted areas, escorts for late night classes, and phones located around campus. The hours of campus buildings are great for accomadating students schedules in case of jobs or other class commitments. I would recommend Kent State to anyone how is looking to receive a great education and have fun while attaining it!
