The early bird gets into Kenyon
IntroductionThe most important piece of advice I could give anyone trying to apply to Kenyon (and really wants to come here) is to apply early admissions. Kenyon is getting harder and harder to get into and I had many friends from high school last year who could not get in regular decision. Kenyon accepts a large majority of it's incoming class based on early admissions. If you want diversity in a College or Town, Kenyon is not your place. The student body is largely made up of wealthy white students from across the country. Gambier, the town in which Kenyon resides, is a small community within Knox County, OH. Here there is little to no diversity as far as race or religion go. I came to Kenyon because the people here were so friendly when I visited and I fit right into the social scene when I was a prospective student. Partying and the social life are a huge part of the College, so if you want a mellow College with lot's of great activities within the school and the area, Kenyon is not for you! However, if you want a school that is very fun and challenging I suggest it to anyone. Our size is around 1600 students, very small. The party scene is nothing like at a state school. Here you recieve one of the best educations in the world along with a social climate that will allow you meet anyone you want to know.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe social life at Kenyon is predominately run by Greek societies. All parties, drinking scenes, and such are sponsored by Greeks. Over twenty percent of the male population is affiliated with a Greek orginization. Without Greeks, this school would be on it's own and quite boring. Kenyon only has one bar, that has a great atmosphere where many upperclassmen and professors congregate. Security has a tight grip over the party scene as well, they are very strict. Many kids get written up for underage drinking by security and the local sheriff. Parties at Kenyon, however, are not completely about being social. Many times you will see people out only to get fall-down-drunk. "Work hard, play harder" is a motto that all socially active students take to heart. The sports at Kenyon are not very competative except for the Swimming team, Tennis team, and Girl's Basketball program. Pardon me if I do not jump for joy out of excitement for these. Support is minimal (if at all existent for Sports). The intramural seasons are highlights for many people at Kenyon. Intramural basketball gets a big draw and provides students with tons of fun. Recently, Kenyon has built the Kenyon Athletic Center. It is a sixty million dollar facility; the largest in Division three.
