Why I Transferred

Rating: 2/5 (37 ratings)
Introduction
I chose C.W. Post because I thought the dance major would be exactly what I needed to succeed in the dance world. I also thought that the campus was beautiful and that it would be nice to be close to home (I'm from Long Island).

Campus Life and Social Life
Thursday nights, everyone parties. But the weekends are very quiet because a lot of the students go home for the weekend (the majority of the students are from Long Island). Also, many students commute to school so during the day more people are on campus than those that dorm there. I also feel like a lot of students don't really participate in the clubs and activities offered on campus.

Academics
I was in the honors program. The classes were alright, I don't know how they compared to the normal classes on campus but they were similar to my honors classes in high school, except they were mostly lectures. The dance department isn't the best. It doesn't offer different levels or many opportunities as a dance. Some of the dance majors have never taken ballet before and you question how they got into the program. The dance professors are nice though, some are kinda loopy but it's alright. I transferred out of the program though because I knew I could do better and many other programs offer a lot more opportunities.

Student Body
The "typical" student at Post is rich and from Long Island. They mostly party and don't really care much about their classes. They don't take advantage of the few activities Post offers (causing the school to offer less and less).

In Closing...
After my freshmen year at Post I knew I wanted to transfer but I though I would give it another chance. My sophmore year was not any better so I am now attending a different school. I really didn't like the dance program and how the students always went home for the weekends. I did like the dance majors and theatre majors that I had most of my classes with and te professors were nice but Post doesn't offer much. There are many other schools that can better help you get where you need to go and they don't cost nearly as much.
