LSU: Friend or Foe?
IntroductionLSU breaks the mold. As one of the largest academic institutions in the nation, the school caters to a wide range of students. And diversity exists, although it seems intangible at times. The school is definitely worth looking into if your idea of a good time is partying and the occasional Sunday of homework. As big state-schools in the South go, LSU has all the amenities necessary to attract any kind of student, whether he/she is academically oriented or a party buff.
Campus Life and Social LifeReally everything about fall semester of your Freshman year here will blow your mind. Parties...sports (especially the huge amount of school spirit for our Football team)...just everything.

AcademicsAcademics are great. As for my particular department, Geography, I have yet to find a problem with the program here. There's a wide range of classes offered in most all Departments. And LSU's large student body promotes this type of diversity of offerings. The class size is generally large in lower-level classes...I often find myself in a sea of students, and large lecture-halls seem to be commonplace here. But the further along you get in your program, and the further up in the pecking order, the more personal the classes become. And even in the lecture-hall setting, hands-on instruction with the teacher/TA is not unheard of.
Student BodyThe "typical" student here is hard to pin down...there's a large Greek scene on campus but I don't want to overemphasize that. Additionally, the majority of LSU students are from Louisiana. I feel like one of the few Westerners out here. But hey, nothing wrong with that, is there? As for personality and interests, though, defining a "typical" student at LSU is a tough task. Anyone and everyone could find a clique here at LSU as student interests are so diverse.
