Not what you'd expect
IntroductionI grew up in Southern Louisiana my entire life...a whole 45 minutes away from LSU's campus. My entire family are raging Tiger fans...I couldn't escape it. I just couldn't understand how grown men could care so much about one school. I was dead set on going somewhere else: anywhere else. The only problem is that LSU is the only legitimate public university in Louisiana and I couldn’t afford out of state fees. Much to my chagrin, I did as everyone else in my high school did and went to LSU.
Let's just say that i made the right choice. From the second that I moved into the dorm, went through formal recruitment, I realized that there was a reason all the grown men were obsessed with this school like a magical force. The second you start classes you feel pride. Pride to be a Tiger. I mean think about it, if you feel this kind of pride just going to class think about how it feels sitting in Tiger stadium on the road to the national championship!
Campus Life and Social LifeAll I have to say is LSU formally ranked as the #1 party school by Princeton Review. Now ever since that review came out in the late 90's, LSU has been trying to crack down on the social scene. It is not quite as crazy as it once was but I think that is a good thing. Every night has a different bar (all 2 min from campus). Amazing drink specials, everything you could ask for. And don't forget it's only 50 min from New Orleans!
Greek life is HUGE here. I am currently a part of a sorority and am so happy I did it. I wasn't going to do it, but as i said I needed a way to escape high school. My chapter is the 3rd largest (of my specific sorority) in the nation. And we have 10 houses just that large. It may seem a little intimidating at first but it is so worth it in the end.

AcademicsFlagship university. I'm not really sure what those two words mean, but i think it's something good. LSU is on it's way to becoming a flagship university. They keep telling us that everyday.
You go from your wide range of smaller classes to your classes that hold over 1,000 people. There is never really any telling. The professors (the ones you can understand, that speak English) are very helpful.
The admission requirements have gone up drastically from when I had to apply. This is all part of LSU's attempt to compete with elite schools across the country. It is very close.
Student BodyI'd say that it seems that about 70% of the studetns at this school are from Louisiana. That is because in Louisiana they offer a scholarship if you stay in state. 10% of the remaining students are from TX. The other 20% are from all over the world. Now that is in no way a real statistic, it is just what it seems like from a students perspective.
The typical student seems to be involved in the Greek scene. But the thing is that it is not true, only 15% of the student body is in a sorority or frat. It's just that those are the ones that are very involved on campus that you see everyday on your walks to class.
In Closing...it's simple. If you are trying to decide between LSU and another school...spend one Saturday night in Tiger statium, all your doubts and questions will be answered!
