I Love LMU
IntroductionI chose LMU because I wanted to live in a big city, liked the small friendly community atmosphere, B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l campus!!! The location was a big factor. And I liked the fact that there was a business school. If you are considering LMU, in highschool you must have around a 3.5 and 1200 SAT (avg- although they make exceptions based on circumstances ie. first in family to go to college). You should also have volunteered, maybe taken a few AP classes. The school is very big on their mission statement "educating the whole person" so show that you are well rounded caring individual ready to make a contribution in college.
Few things to keep in mind:
You MUST like LA. Not everyone is an LA person. Although the campus is very separated from its surroundings on the hilltop, it is small and you will want to venture off campus. If you want wilderness, go to Santa Cruz. It's a big metropolitan area with a lot of distractions, so you must be focused.
You MUST like a small school (aprox. 5000 people, but growing). You will pass by your classmates and friends often during passing period and see them at cafeteria too all the time. Your teachers notice if you are gone- classes are same size as high school. This can be a plus and a minus, depending on your personality. Some people really don't like small schools- they want to meet tons of different people, have tons of campus things to do, huge array of classes, school spirit, world recognition, and be anonymous on campus- Go to UCLA if that's the case. HOWEVER- if you want more of a nurturing, less overwhelming, smaller, more manageable, friendlier environment where you can get involved in organizations easier (less competition), come here. Make sure that is what you would rather have- otherwise you wont like it!
Campus Life and Social LifeBeautiful ocean view dorms! New facilities. Building a reallllly spectacular library.
Social Scene- Frats and Sororities are big on campus. About 60% are in one! However, they have no frat houses- westchester doesnt allow them but most set up their own houses with like 6 people in them on 80th street in the middle of this anal grandma neighborhood that always complains about noise. I found it a bit clicky to see them only hang out with their group although occasionally I would see a good party from them. It is lame after a while to see the same guys/ girls are parties- so must venture out to USC!
Fresh and soph yrs- bus parties are HUGE. They take you to a party in hollywood, its great cuz you can drink and not worry about driving. Jr/ sr years most people go to bars and clubs in manhattan beach hermosa, hollywood. Big drinking scene, esp on St Patties day cuz lots of Irish people at this school. Although, if you are a bookworm- you might be able to find a crowd that doesn't partake.
Tons of campus clubs. Sports- not soo big- Go to Notre Dame if that's your thing. Bball team is moderately known, and not very good. Although going to games is popular.

AcademicsFilm School has lots of renowned alums. Business school has a great program. I did that program and it prepared me pretty well. Liberal Arts is what LMU's known for. They make you take 2 theology classes. Lots of core classes. Avoid science of theater- not the school's forte. Go to UCLA for that.
Professors- I have had some that were on par with high school teachers, and a handful or so that were amazzzinnngg. So big range between profs, some classes more challenging than others- you would have to try hard to get below a C. No TAs! You can use ratemyprofessor to find best profs.
Student BodyThe school's in LA- so if you are bored here- you are just borrring. There tons of things to do- Museums, beach, clubs, movie premiers, mountains, cultural stuff all within an hours drive. Many people leave on weekends though which is lame. Thurs/ Fri- many students go to UCLA or UCLA (20 min drive) which both have a frat row and tons of parties.
Students- You'll find lots of prep school kids i would say at least 60%, not many public school kids which made me feel weird at first. Overall everyone I met was very kindhearted and lots were generous too. Most were from middle class- upper middle class families. Lots of luis vuitton purses! Many are from out of state (40% or so)- hawaii, texas, oregon, washington. Lots of hidden diversity- you would see people who were african american but from the Caribbean, or latino but from peru or columbia, or white but from austrailia...etc That was awesome too. Overall very diverse.
In Closing...Go to LMU! you will love it. Very known in LA- not so much outside of LA. Not a big alumni network either. Great school though- Visit the campus though first and you'll see what I mean.
