It's probably better if you didn't....

Rating: 5/5 (89 ratings)
Introduction
Loyola is a fairly small campus of 6,000 some people with a limited number of clubs and even a more limited number of things to do on campus. Loyola is one of those schools that's built around the city and it's great for the independent types that are already fairly wordly and devirginized. However, if you're one of those kids whose lived in the suburbs all his life, in the same neighborhood, with the same group of people, you may have a lot of trouble adjusting to this type of school and will probably not survive a school like this.

Campus Life and Social Life
You in a dangerous city. People are paranoid. Everyone has their guard up. It's pretty difficult to make friends at this school. Everyone pretty much sticks to their freshman circle of friends and stay there for the rest of the 4 years. I had a friend who transferred here during his sophomore year and he was just miserable. Everyone told him he was going to fine in making friends, but in the end of the year, he couldn't even befriend his roommates. People are nice, but are not very eager to make friends. So if you're not into the strip clubs, sporting events, or the super-expensive shopping places, you're definitely in the wrong place.

Academics
This school is big on science and medicine and they get the nicest buildings. Next up is the business department which gets its own compus downtown. The classroom size is about 20-40 people so don't expect the huge auditoriam classes (which is a good thing), and the teachers here are fairly competant. They know their stuff and they won't waste your time. A lot of them are quite personable during class and they'll try to find ways to involve the class, however, don't expect to make friends with them after class. It's not that they're mean, it's just that the city makes them super paranoid for some reason. But the acadmics here isn't too difficult, it's perfectly manageable, and easy A's shouldn't be difficult to come by if you're the type who keeps up with coursework during the semester.

Student Body
A lot of people here are into the White Sox and the Cubs, so if you're into watching sports, you'll fit right with the crowd here. Other kids are will form their smaller, fractured groups. Kids are are from all across the nation, one of my friends came all the way from California. Most of the people here came from private schools. A lot of people here were designer clothes, so being in a classroom full of people wearing Hollister Fleeces is not exactly an uncommon sight here. A lot of the white guys here try to show off their muscles and wear tight shirts. Girls are selfish, mean, unhelpful, and drink too much beer. A lot of the people here are self-absorbed. Oh and did I mention, the the girl/guy ratio is 2:1 (girls). So you'd think there'd be 2 girls for every guy, but that's not how it works here. A lot of the girls here are not not horrible ugly, but they're not knockouts either. And most of them all stick to 1 guy. Frat houses are banned at loyola and the groups themself don't hold much presence here.

In Closing...
Don't come here if you've lived in the suburbs all your life - you'll get eaten alive.
