L-U-T-H-E-R Luther!
IntroductionIf you're looking for a small school in a small town in Iowa - apply here! I chose Luther because of it's size. It's a small school (around 2,500 students) and it's in a really small town (Decorah has around 9,000 people). The campus is beautiful and it has a good academic reputation. The performing arts at Luther is wonderful! If you are active in music, dance, or theater, this is a great place. It also has excellent Nursing and Education programs.
Campus Life and Social LifeYou have to be pretty creative to find stuff to do around here. The town is so small that there's not that much to do. We have a movie theater (3 movies at a time), a bowling alley, Walmart, and some small gift shops downtown. Two local pizza shops that are big are Pizza Ranch and Mabe's. There's a lot of partying at Luther for being such a small school. The 2 main local bars, Roscoe's and Americana, let 19 year olds in, so access to alcohol is really easy. Roscoe's is really gross and dirty though, but most people go there to dance. Drinking is big at Luther because of the fact that there's not much to do. Movies are shown on Friday and Saturday nights in the fall and spring sometimes. There's a lot of theater and music stuff here too. There are always 2 big concerts every year - one in the fall and one in the spring. This year we had Paolo Nutini in the fall and Ben Folds is coming in March. They've had Dave Matthews, Guster, Jack's Mannequin, and many more. A lot of people go to the Football and Basketball games. Our boys basketball team is pretty good, but football is pretty bad. Movie nights are big here. We have a small restaurant type hangout on campus called Marty's. They have good food and entertainment sometimes.

AcademicsThe big majors here are Nursing, Music, and Education. You have to be pretty committed to work here - especially in the Nursing program. It's extremely competitive. The prof's here are super nice and get to know all their students by name because of the small class sizes. Most of them live in the area so they stay in touch easily with you and sometimes they'll have get togethers at their houses in town. Paideia is a required first year class. It's like a reading/writing class. You read like crazy and write papers throughout the semester.
Student BodyWe have a small student body so you see a lot of the same people around campus. This makes it easier to get to know your fellow classmates and become close friends with people.
In Closing...Luther is a great school!
