Pick of the litter
IntroductionI chose Macalester because it offers the opportunity to really shape your own degree. It is also one of the only schools that offers an environmental studies program, and the program is incredible and dynamic. The types of students that should stay away are the types of kids who are looking to play a lot of beer pong and mess around. You will have a lot of work to do when you get here, but it is definitely easy enough to get done in time, and it's worth how much you learn.
Campus Life and Social LifeSocial life at Macalester is different from the typical college social scene. There aren't huge crowds flocking to the football games or Frat houses. The reason being that our football team sucks and we don't have any frats or sororities. To make up for that, there are parties held at different sports houses or cultural houses. This is where you'll find the typical keg parties, etc. The lack of Frats also makes Mac students be a little more creative with their weekend plans, so there are lots of performances, dances (not school sponsored) and other fun things.

AcademicsThe school has some really incredible departments, like policital science, international studies, environmental studies, anthropology, geography and psychology are all pretty well renowned, along with all the language departments. Don't come here if you are interesting in something like engineering, because we don't even offer it.
Student BodyThe typical student ranges greatly, it is impossible to describe one. Almost half of the students at the school are international, which makes for a very diverse student body, in a very good way. We have one of the largest gay communities and we were rated 2nd most accepting atmosphere for gay students. So typically everyone here is liberal and very open minded. A large portion of the student body is very active, politically or otherwise in the Twin cities community and beyond. A part of the student body is very dorky and kind of strange, but there is also a chunk of just very interesting fun people.
In Closing...If you don't like small schools, don't come here. But if you do, then Mac is the place to come, It is incredible and I wouldn't have been as happy anywhere else! The food is also better than most other colleges... which is defenitely a plus when you have to eat it three times a day.
