The Truth
IntroductionMarywood is a small school, but it's nice to see people you know no matter where you are. My best advice is to get a parking pass and a block meal plan. First year you'll be staying in the brand new gorgeous dorms with strictly other freshman. After that there's only one bad dorm and even it's not that bad. Buy a parking pass, it's only $50. By the time you rack up 3 parking tickets, you've already paid $60, so do it.
Campus Life and Social LifeIt's "dry campus" but don't get too disappointed... There is drinking in dorms for some people, if you get caught, they dump your beer and try to find you some "help" but there's no criminal proceedings, usually. Which is alot better then getting busted by the police. There are parties off campus on the weekends and holidays. Alot of these are themed, but not all. They can be a good time, but you have to be careful. Ransom hook-ups occur at these but also alot on campus. About 20-30% of people go home on the weekends so if you're not partying then sleeping or studying, you make your own fun. There is Dickson City right down the road where you can find every store and restaurant ever so you can't be bored unless you choose to be. Student activities runs awesome things during the day on tuesdays and thursdays, and wednesday, friday, and saturday nights and then for commuters on wednesdays in the really nice commuter lounge. EVERYONE goes to bingo once a month. Parties don't start until bingo is over.
AcademicsGreat 5 year program for Speech Pathology. Theatre majors are busy all the time with shows and rehearsals and classes. Art students sit outside all the time on the art field (the major grass space for everything outdoor) and are always carrying around sculptures and canvas. Nutrition and dietetics is good. So is Education. No matter what, you'll get a good education. Education department, however has a lot of hoops and complications that you have to be careful of so you don't get screwed and end up a super senior.
Student BodyOur mascot is a pacer: the horse that sets the pace of the race, and never ever wins... kind of like our basketball team. Our tennis team is excellent. Boys soccer are usually drunk and high. Girls soccer and field hockey are really tight girls and hangout off the field. Students range from straight edge to people who never go to class and are found drunk on the side of the highway (okay so just once that happened, but you get the idea...) Most are pretty average kids who like to have fun but still pass their classes.
In Closing...The fine arts requirement is stupid, but it's only 3 credits of you life. Take your religion requirement with Zaums or Sister Kelly, they're the nicest and best graders (can you say group tests?). Parade day is a huge holiday... so watch out for it... whether your remember it or not. Orientation is a blast, so if you decide to attend, definitely go to it, it's a good time. Visitation hours stink but we're working really hard to change them now... plus it's easy to break the rules of visitation. There are 4 girls for every guy but it's still possible to meet a nice guy if you're a girl. There are some really cute guys and with some many girls, there's an abundance of good-looking ones.
