3 things, pick 2!

Rating: 2/5 (15 ratings)
Introduction
There’s an old joke that says there’s 3 things: work, sleep and friends – and you can choose 2 and that’s the old MIT adage- so in some sense that’s true – not totally.

The building numbers took me a while to get down, but it’s an efficient way of learning to get about campus so it’s OK. I’m not a coder by any means so, I leave that to my friends, and they can solve the world’s coding problems.

Campus Life and Social Life
I think there are some people who live in dorms who are very isolated who don’t have friends around and I’m in a very different situation my friends and I have lived in the same area in the same dorm for 4 years so we’ve gotten a close group together and so we have some crazy times up there.
You have to pay an exorbitant parking fee. I think the public transportation is adequate so I don’t think its worth having a car.

Academics
You can use your card across campus. You can use it to buy books, you can use it to buy food, you can do whatever you want with it, basically as long as they accept it. In one dorm, we have a dining hall, which is adequate I mean it’s a nice atmosphere and but you can get sick of the same food very quickly so after 4 years it’s kind of all bitterness here.

Student Body
There are very few people around here I think who do utilize Boston and Cambridge – there are some I think maybe a quarter of the students would probably be a generous estimate. There’s this atmosphere here that you always have to be doing work here – and if you’re not then you at least have to be worrying about doing work.

People are so busy, there’s no over-arching culture here – everyone just does their own thing. I like how there’s so many amazing people here in so many different areas –everyone’s an expert in something and yet there’s no real arrogance around here.

In Closing...
Z center is awesome – I go there hopefully twice a week usually, sometimes it gets busy and you can’t do that so it’s just a nice place, I think it’s a good addition.

It’s got a big Olympic sized pool – it’s got exercise equipment, basketball courts, that kind of thing – it makes MIT a little more competitive in the area of student life, I guess.

The girls are as crazy as the guys are – I mean you’ll hear guys complaining that girls aren’t attractive enough but I’m sure they’re complaining that guys aren’t attractive enough too – it’s kind of hard to hold a relationship here based on how busy you are – I think it throws another kink in the works, certainly with time being as stretched as thin as it is.
