Beautiful People

Rating: 2/5 (89 ratings)
Introduction
If you are seriously looking for a place with strong academics, along with a big party/bar scene, then Miami University is the place for you. Miami has been published as a "public ivy", which at times you can tell by the course load. A degree from this university is highly looked upon by job recruiters, which is why the university has a very high job placement rating. There is always something to do uptown at night no matter what day of the week it is as well.

Campus Life and Social Life
If you enjoy sports, this is the place for you. All of Miami's varsity athletics are D1, and are very fun to watch. There are also many intramural sports any student can try and play. Club teams/sports are a very big deal here at Miami. We have the highest amount of money given to our club sports based on student population of any college. Uptown, where all the bars are located, provides the hangout for many of the students here. Parties start early at houses or apartments and usually end up at one of the 20 or so bars uptown. Most of the bars are 18 and up and of course there's no officially endorsed drinking if under 21, but there are a few bars you must be 21 to even enter. If you don't like to drink, they have after-hour events such as movies and other things you can attend, and a ton of clubs for anyone to join.

Academics
Academics are taken very seriously here at Miami. The Richard T. Farmer School of Business is taking great strides in becoming one of the best in the country by upping their standards to enter the school. A new building has been designed and should be built within two years. A new Engineering building and Psychology building are in the final stages of construction and look amazing. Talking to friends at other schools, it seems as if we don't have as many TA's teaching classes as those other schools. Class sizes are comparable to other schools, and even smaller in most cases. As for the workload, it is up to you. A lot of the work is designed to help you achieve more, but it is not always turned in, so the amount of time you put in will help you more.

Student Body
Many of the students here at Miami come from Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Chicago, and most recently Atlanta. Half of the applications are out of state, so you can meet a lot of people from different places. We have the reputation as "J Crew U", and there is some truth to it, but not to a high degree compared to other schools. Many students do like to look good when they go out, which is all rright, but you will see the exact same thing at every other school. We just somehow have the reputation. It also comes from always being rated as one of the top colleges for prettiest girls/handsomest guys.

In Closing...
If you like to have a good time, but would like to earn a valuable degree at the same time, then Miami University is a place for you. It is challenging for many students to get in, so don't think this will just be a back up school for you, unless you are very intelligent. The more social you are, the better a time you'll have here.
