Everything it seems to be...and not.
IntroductionMiami University is almost like two different schools. Stereotypes abound at this school- people here are hopelessly hip and 75% of the people on this campus look exactly like everyone else. However, if you can ignore the Miami girls and prep/jock guys, there are wonderful people here at Miami. It seems like everyone here is an extreme- extremely nice, friendly and mature, or extremely self-centered, fashion concious, and immature.
With all that said, I'm glad I came to Miami.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere are parties here all the time if you're a socialite. If you're not a partier, there are student organizations, athletic events, and plenty of "no-alcohol-required" entertainment. It's fairly easy to find something to do if you have the desire and in some cases, the money.
If you love Hockey, this is the place for you. Our hockey team has been ranked #1 in the nation on several occasions. We are consistently in the top 5 teams and have just recently built a huge new arena for our team.
AcademicsMiami's music program features some of the best and brightest in both students and staff. The arts and journalism departments are also knowledgable.
I have yet to have had a professor who didn't teach well.
Student BodyThere is the stereotypical "Miami Girl." They can be identified by: their huge sunglasses, trendy cell phone (currently a razr or blackberry) glued to their ear, complete disregard for people around them (they talk really really loud when on the phone) and some absolutely hideous or nonsensical fashions that they wear only because it's popular. Seriously, a miniskirt and snowboots? Disgusting!
Miami guys are nice but tend to make asses of themselves when in the presence of alcohol.
Everyone in Miami is rich- so you're going to see a lot of the stereotypical stuck up rich kids here. But there are lots of people on campus who are genuinely good people- who just happen to have lots of money.
In Closing...We are called J Crew U. It's a fitting name because of the general attitude of the stereotypical Miami student. Don't let that effect your decision, though- because the huge mass of bland, conformist sheep only makes a unique person stand out and be noticed all the more.
For musicians, educators, and business majors, this is definitely a wonderful school with excellent potential
