Introduction
You have a predetermined image of a college before you come to one, from growing up watching TV and movies and whatever else. When I came to Miami, it just seemed like that typical college, it seemed like it just fit well and everything around here is just so clean, the campus is beautiful. There’s a ton of clubs, aside obviously there’s drinking in every club probably you’re going to join, because…social events and such not in every club obviously, but a lot of clubs do that. There are 16,000 people here and I think that sometimes it’s hard to meet people because everyone’s just kind of like doing their own thing.

Campus Life and Social Life
The only classes I have a problem with are that classes that are Miami Plan classes that are taught as if they’re for your major. I’m an English major, so I have to take a Poli-sci course or a theatre course to fulfill the Miami Plan. And that’s fine; I have no problem taking those courses except when the professor grades it as if I were a theatre major or a political science major. I’ve had classes that have been 200 people and I’ve had classes that have been 6 people so it’s a range. Especially the smaller courses. When I have classes that are 10 people, I mean smaller than that even. I’ve had courses that have been 6 people. In that case specifically, professors are extremely nice, extremely talkative.
Academics
I’m only 19 right now, so I think when I’m 21 it’ll be a lot better. I had a fake ID that was taken away freshman year and that sucked. I have a new one now, but I don’t use it at the bars because I’m just afraid. How it works is people normally just buy it for you. But I think that it’s a nice mix of house parties and going to the bar. I think the Greek scene—people say it’s like 1/3, I don’t know what it is but I think it’s much higher than people say it is. Greek life is pretty big here. I’m not involved in it myself. At some points I feel like I’m on the outside looking in because it seems like it’s a real fun group, or whatever. I mean, I had a bad experience with rushing. I didn’t like it. I was actually pledging for awhile and I actually de-pledged. It just wasn’t for me. But I think that the people that do it, like a lot of my friends are in it, they really enjoy it. People that are in it really seem to have a good time. They have parties and that’s fun. They can be kind of shady. They can be like, “Well, who do you know?” and that kind of stuff and that’s irritating, but they’re fun.

I think anywhere you go, any school you go to there are going to be kids doing drugs. I mean, that’s just part of the culture. I don’t think it’s necessarily big here. I don’t myself, my friends don’t. I’ve never heard of anything worse than weed.

Student Body
Freshman year, I had a good time in the dorms. I actually miss the dorms kind of because when you live in a house you don’t see 100 people. When you’re in the dorm, you’re right there with everybody and you share a bathroom and you see everyone in the hallway and it’s kind of like summer camp. It’s fun. When you’re in a house you only see the people you live with, like 4 or 5 guys. So I kind of miss the dorms, actually. I kind of liked—I thought it was fun, I had a good dorm experience. My RA was cool. My friends I’m friends with now, I met in the dorm last year.

I lived in Emerson Hall freshman year. Great dorm. Very clean, very big rooms, air-conditioning. Bathrooms were spotless, everything. Every morning they were cleaned. I thought it was a great dorm. Roommate was good. Good desk.

In Closing...
The food is great. The dining hall food, I loved it. I still eat there for lunch every now and then. Schriver’s is good. The food is good. I actually have a meal plan for uptown too because I live uptown and so that works for any restaurant like Subway, or like bagel and deli or skippers or anywhere. And that’s great too. Uptown food is great too.

Uptown Bucks, it’s an account that works uptown, hence the name. It works at Codobo, Wendy’s. It works everywhere, Skippers. It’s a separate account from your normal meal plan.
It’s not through the University, it’s a separate account put money into it and it works uptown.
