LOVE IT!
IntroductionMiami is truly an amazing school and I am so happy I chose to go here. Like any school though it does have some negatives. Miami definitely holds the work hard play harder attitude, and students are packed in the library keeping their grades up pretty much non stop until night when everyone heads uptown to drink, and the weekends start early in the week for some. Miami also doesn't have an enormous amount of diversity, but that doesn't mean people aren't accepting here it is just that minorities tend to choose to go other places where there is more to offer them, and you can't really blame them for it. Oxford is a small rural town about an hour outside of Cincinnati, and some may complain that it is boring but honestly you are so busy with everything you have with school and clubs that there isn't a whole lot of free time anyways and lots of people head into cincy to go to the mall or head to a reds game when they want.
Campus Life and Social LifeDrinking is huge at Miami and you can find people at the bars pretty much everyday of the week. The majority of the bars are 18 to get in and if you are under you can pretty easily get someone to buy you something if you want. The Greek scene seems to be huge although it is only 1/4 of the campus. Despite the small town there is always something going on, even if that may just mean a sporting event. Miami students would rather watch an OSU game in their dorm or uptown then head over to the stadium and watch our our team not that Ben R is gone. Hockey is another story though with huge fan support, but other than that we have some amazing athletic teams with few fans cheering them on.

AcademicsThe Business and Education schools at Miami are top ranked are very good. The Communications school is excellent however annoying and difficult to get into and there are honestly no programs that are terrible. Most Miami students walk away on graduation with jobs already lined up, some even having them in the fall of their senior year. Some of the Miami Plan professors are not that great but when you get into the upper level classes the professors are outstanding, and everyone speaks english perfectly unlike some big 10 schools where you can't understand a word they are saying.
Student BodyJ Crew U is not just an expression. It is reality. You don't really realize it until you leave the Miami bubble or visit another campus but everyone is pretty much in jeans or khakis and polos and cableknit sweaters everyday, and of course about 99% of the campus owns a North Face fleece. Most girls walk around with the oversized sunglasses and ribbons and pearls as well. Also students, especially the girls, dress up to go uptown on the weekends. It is not unusual to see a girl in a dress on a friday night at a bar. People here tend to have a lot of money and show it but there are obviously strong groups on this campus who do not fit this stereotype. About a block from the bars there are coffee shops that have poetry readings and guitar sessions on friday nights where people wearing hemp pack the place there too.
In Closing...Despite the overwhelming stereotypes and stories you may hear about MU it is truly an amazing school with a lot of opportunities and a lot of amazing and unique people. With the living learning communities you live in your freshman year (dorms grouped by interests like leadership, health, envirnoment, arts, languages) you can easily find your niche at Miami and make lifelong friends. It is also cool to come out with a degree to be proud of and an awesome job lined up while your friends at other schools move back home to live with mom and dad and be a waitor.
