Miami, the Love of my Life

Rating: 2/5 (12 ratings)
Introduction
For any high school student begining to look at colleges I would suggest to keep in mind that ultimately it is your decision, do not let your parents decide for you no matter what. You have to spend at least four years there, assuming you plan to graduate, so make sure it's where you want to be. I would definately suggest trying to spend a weekend at colleges you are considering to see if you like the social scene. When considering Miami remember that it is a small town, but it's still a lot of fun. The academics are tough, but not impossible. And the school is big, but not overwhelming. You will have a lot of adjusting to do and be much more responsible for every aspect of your life. You decide when to eat, sleep, do homework, and party. It can be difficult to find a balance between work and play, but you will find you soon get the hang of it. You make friends in your dorm faster than you would believe and feel so close to them it's almost like you've known them forever. Going to college is so much fun and you grow and learn so much about yourself through the process. It has been the time of my life and I love every minute of college. If had to choose a college all over again I think I would do it exactly the same. After looking at a few colleges I looked at Miami, fell in love and stopped my search. Miami is the only school I applied to and I love it, I would never change my decision.

Campus Life and Social Life
Though Miami has a reputation of high academic success, going so far as to say it is the Harvard of Ohio, it has quite the social scene as well. One of the things which was so important to me when chosing a college was that it had good academics but the students still knew how to party, and Miami has given that to me. First of all, no matter what day of the week it is, there is always something to do in Oxford. Don't let the small town scare you, we have tons of bars (most of which are open to those 18 and over), tons of fraternities (which are always having parties), and tons of school sponsored events (some of which are fun, others not so much). Also, since Miami is a pretty medium sized school with about 15,000 undergraduates, no matter where you go you will find a few people you know, and a few that you don't. This is my second favorite thing about the social scene at Miami. You are always meeting new people, yet you could walk into a bar or party all by yourself and still know so many people. My third favorite thing about Miami's campus life is our little town of Oxford. It's small yes, but it's so much fun. On that one little strech of High Street you can find pretty much anything you need including a little pottery making place, tons of cute restaurants, and even a little boutique with all your Miami essentials including North Face, Lacoste, and designer genes. Number four best thing about campus life at Miami would have to be the food. There is pretty much anything you want from stir fry to Mexican to hot subs and it's all pretty good. Sometimes even when I'm at home I find myself wishing for a tasty pretzel or some of the delicious broccilli cheddar soup from Miami. And my last favorite thing about Miami is Mel, our limo driver. Tell me on what other campus can you pay five dollars to get picked up in a limo, cram as many people as possible in it, and take it any where you want. We can at Miami and do, especially when it starts getting cold. Despite all the great things about Miami's campus life, there are some downfalls as well. Our football games aren't really that big of a deal, most people don't go except to the homecoming game of course. For me this isn't really a big deal because I don't really like football, but for die hard football fans, this could be a problem. Second

Student Body
Everyone knows the Miami stereotype, and yes the majority of the people there fit that stereotype. Most people are decked out in Lacoste, J-Crew, North Face, and Polo carrying their Kate Spade or Vera Bradely book bag listening to their iPod and showing off their new pearls or Tiffany's jewelry. The thing with the stereotype is that most people like it. We're not stuck up we just have a certain taste and we like it that way. People who hate the idea of watching people strut around campus in their designer dudds should probably consider a different school. Students at Miami don't look at their stereotype as a burden, and actually embrace it. A lot of students, at least those which I have met come from the Midwest, though I know several people from the East Coast, and can barely think of any one from the West Coast. One thing i love about the Miami student body is that no matter what our differences we all share one thing in common, we love our school. Not necessarily the athletics, or the classes, or the nightlife, but just in general we love the entity which is Miami University. For most of us there is no place on earth that we would rather be. We dread going home for breaks and look forward to the start of the school year. We're just obsessed and we LOVE Miami!

In Closing...
I have found the love of my life, it's name is Miami University.
