My Favorite Place on Earth

Rating: 3/5 (34 ratings)
Introduction
I picked this place because honestly, I had heard quite a bit of stereotypes about the university but all of which I felt comfortble with and seemed to suit my personality. I feel very comfortable in the environment and my expectations were defintiely met. It's a conservative, preppy atmosphere just as I had always been told. No one goes out of their way to fit these stereotypes though, I believe that a great deal of us were raised in these sorts of environments and therefore it is a place we can all feel at ease. I think the political views and family lives of the majority of the students are conservative and its more unique than most universities in that respect because from my standpoint a larger portion of the student body tends to be republican which varies from other schools I looked at which are largely democratic.

Campus Life and Social Life
I have nothing bad to say about the social opportunities at Miami. There's something for everyone and I've never had a problem coming accross what I'm looking for, whether it be students who share my love for music or my want to stay up late night and see friends all over uptown which is where the majority of kids go at night, most frequently on the weekends of course. When going uptown, the school definitely has a sense of shrinking to a smaller university because you tend to run into a great deal of people you know. Greek life is great too and a lot of the frats are very inviting and open there doors to friends from all walks. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in very active clubs as well, some more unique than others such as the sailing club. All of the clubs seem to meet on a frequent basis, such as once a week. And even if someone isn't up to par for playing division 1AA sports, there are limitless opportunities through the intramurals.
Academics
I think the academics here are incredible. I love all of my professors (well except for one, if your prof has a thick accent, run in the opposite direction!) Other than that I've had a lot of male prof's I feel like they could have been my dad, all very respectable, professional, and not too harsh with homework but they give you enough work to learn something meaningful. The girl prof's I've had all tend to be young and relateable to the students well maintaining a professional demeanor. But then again there are hundreds of prof's I haven't met. I will say that political science is a phenomenal major as the department is huge and the prof's are awesome.

Student Body
The students here are definitely preppy. As many of the kids that are from Ohio you meet just as many from anywhere from Cali to Connecticut. And they're all awesome and have something unique and fun to add to the atmosphere. We definitely earn our nickname of J.Crew U. but I have yet to meet someone snobby or who isn't grounded in good morals and values.

In Closing...
Come here! It's amazing. It's hard to describe the experience in words but when you start preferring it to summer time you know there's something incredible about it.
