This is College!
IntroductionI chose this school because I grew up in Boulder, Colorado and wanted to get away from home and become independent. Oxford is the greatest small town ever and caters to every type of student. I also chose to come here because of the prestigious Richard T. Farmer Business School. The biggest piece of advice I would give to prospective students is: do well your first semester here. Once you have established a good G.P.A., it is not that hard to maintain it. I partied almost every night first semester but only AFTER my studies were done...and I made the Dean's List. Don't bother coming here if you think college is easy or all about drinking. You are wasting your parents' money in that case.
Campus Life and Social LifeGreek life is everywhere here, but so is non-Greek-life. There are parties every night of the week and bars uptown have themed parties every night too. The hockey games are the best part of the sports here, as are football games. The best part of the social life is that there is always something to do, whether it is going to a party or watching a movie uptown. The worst part about the social life is that there are always parties to go to and too many students get caught up in partying and not studying.
AcademicsI am in the Business School and it is very challenging. From the classes I have taken here, Economics courses are the best but very hard. History classes are interesting but difficult. All the classes here are interesting: you learn a lot, but they require motivation to do well. Freshman year, the workload is not bad at all, but Sophomore year things pick up and prioritizing is the key to doing well.
Student BodyMost students are from Illinois (Chicago area), Ohio (everywhere), Minnesota, Connecticut, Missouri (St. Louis), and other Midwest states. Most of the students here are very nice, but they do not necessarily look that way from how they dress. Think North Face, Ugg boots, those big ugly sunglasses girls wear, and polo are prevalent. Students here are into studying first, then partying hard after their studies are complete. People here are highly motivated to study and to party.
In Closing...GBD is the best event of the year...come here to find out what GBD is. I will give you a hint: you wake up at 5am on the Thursday before Spring Break to go ____.
