Better think twice
IntroductionOne of America's worst universities. In "Educational Statistics" edition about 2004, a major reference work like a "book of lists", MSU simultaneously ranked nationally:
1. 5th in worst faculty
2. 2-4th in gun arrests (rankings were 2d, 3d and 4th for the following, but I don't remember which was which)
3. 2-4th in drug arrests
4. 2-4th in alcohol rehab rates per capita
Campus Life and Social LifeGreat party school (nobody has to study so they have to do something)
Sports great (on purpose bread and circuses from a failed school to bring in alumni money and distract students from horribly bad academics)

Academics1. I had hardly any classes, even upper division, below 100 students, most 200-600
2. Because of above, all tests must be machined scored multiple choice
3. Because of above, I had only one course I had to write 2 page papers for, no essay tests, one project in four years.
4. Large classes mean you don't know professors and can't ask questions
5. Classes dumbed down. Social science was about 300 pages of MSU written large print paper backs a class.
6. I scored 4% dumber vs. the general population my senior year (LSAT) than my senior year of high school (SAT).
7. Work very easy and you can get lots of credit by taking finals without the class. Once I got 22 credits in one semester while working 3 part time jobs this way. Graduated in less than 3 years just to get it over with.
8. Jock school and degree mill. IQs over 95 will be bored.
Student BodyPeople very friendly. Dorms are old, and they had a food riot while I was there, but I did not find the food that bad.
In Closing...There are 4000 colleges in America. If you get turned down by 3995, come here. (Ironically, the students are not that dumb, mostly probably B students in high school. It is just the institution that is failed.)
