Hard Work Load
IntroductionMSOE is a hard school meaning there is a lot of work done. MSOE has trimesters which are 10 weeks long with 1 week of finals. A lot is learned during the 10 weeks. Also, at MSOE, you start off in your major core classes. Most other schools have you take the basics before getting into your major your junior year, but here your first quarter you are already started in your major. If you are unsure if engineering is for you, then maybe this school isn't for you because there aren't too many other majors!
Campus Life and Social LifeCampus life is awesome here. There are over 70 student activites on campus and it's really easy to start a new group if you want to. There is always something going on. We have an activities calender on the website where you can see what's going on today, this week, this month, even 2 years from now!
AcademicsThe academics are tough. You have to keep up with homework or you will fall behind really fast and it's hard to get caught back up. Some professors are great and others are not so cool. There are no TAs here because the average class size is about 20 students. Class sizes are very small so here at MSOE you are not a number to the professors, they will know your name. They say that you should study 2 hours for every 1 hour that you are in class. A lot of professors do not collect the homework but you should do it anyway to practice and learn the material before the exams. Tutors are typical too. Unlike high school, almost everyone here has a tutor. It is good to become friends with fellow students in your classes so you can have study groups and get help at night when the professors aren't around.
Student BodyThe students here at MSOE are called nerds, but you can be a cool nerd if you get out of your room and meet people. A lot of students sit and play video games in their rooms and don't get out. Although a D3 school, MSOE has some great sports teams.
In Closing...Get involved. At MSOE if you are invovled in any way on campus whether through sports, student orgs, or whatever your GPA is greater then a student who isn't invovled. Meet people. When you get out, your friends or fellow classmates will be your network which will really help when you graduate and looking for a job. And with that, by the time you graduate form MSOE you will have a job before you graduate. The only exceptions would be if you didn't try applying for one or chose not to get a job and rather go for a different degree or something. Don't be afraid to talk to your professors. They will help you out.
