Not for Pansies

Rating: 3.1/5 (78 ratings)
Introduction
If you have a dream that puts fire in your belly, and gets you out of bed in the morning, and it's related to engineering, business, or nursing, you'll make it here. SIMPLE. If you don't have a DREAM, you had better get one by the end of freshman year or GO HOME AND GET OUT OF EVERYBODY ELSE'S WAY. I came here because I want to be an engineer. I want to be an engineer because I will always be able to support my family, and I will do it by keeping people alive, safe, comfortable, and productive (Peace Corps people can't hold a candle to a competent engineer in terms of service to humanity).

Campus Life and Social Life
Partying starts on weekends and stops on weekends. If you party more than that, you don't graduate. Social activities exist to help us bear the workload, and a lot of the activities are productive in some way. The seniors that are in my graduating class are not big time wasters (even the "slackers" turn things in on time after doing their own work). There are events going on all the time, and there is a lot of FREE FOOD!!
Academics
BEST FLUID POWER!! WE ARE FLUIDS GODS! There are some truly excellent professors and some good ones. No bad ones (at least in my major--mechanical engineering). No TA's, good material, meaningful tests (you can't cheat because the professors actually TEACH the STUDENTS things, and they tailor the higher classes to the students' desired focus). Humanities is a joke. Nursing is best in the country (world?).

Student Body
The typical freshman drops out because he discovered he really wasn't all that smart or strong. The typical B.S. engineer is capable of gaining graduate level competency in any subject in two weeks, and saves lives by fixing mistakes made by idiots who graduated from other schools. Most people are focused, and motivated. There are more smokers than average because of the stress, and many people have a few beers on the weekend, but almost no crack/potheads (I haven't even heard of even one on campus this year).

In Closing...
This is boot camp for engineers who want to be top gun without growing old while in school. You can study abroad with ease (I have had two opportunities so far). I am very satisfied--this school is worth the effort, and with all the financial aid it cost about the same as a state school, without the crowds and mess (I also went to UW-Madison).
