Depends on the Department
IntroductionDepending on the department, this can be a great school. Most professors are very approachable and helpful, and many classes are small. The workload varies very widely, depending on the class and you major. Wireless internet is available in most buildings, and coverage is pretty good. The biggest complaint, which you will hear from everyone you ask, is the parking. There aren't enough spots, parking is expensive, tickets are expensive, and some of the lots are a long walk away. Uphill. Shuttles exist, but may or may not be on time. There are two train stations, if that helps.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere are plenty of clubs to join: academic, cultural, religious, artistic, honor societies, service organizations, etc. Some are big, some are small. Most academic areas have a club. I don't know much about sports, that isn't my thing. Partying is standard, college-style parties. Weekends can be dull sometimes. This is a commuter campus, and even a lot of the residents drive home over the weekend. But don't worry, if you have a car, you'll find something to do. Greek life exists, but once again, that is not my thing.

AcademicsThe workload is managable. There are very few TAs. I have only had one, ever. The honors department is fantastic, with great professors. The political science department is great. The legal studies department is very good, and teaches practical skills. Classics and humanities are good too. I have heard complaints about the business department. In general, the classes are small and professors are always available. Most are very helpful.
Student BodyThere is no typical student. It is a large school, and you will find every kind of person. There are some very motivated, intelligent students. There are also slackers. And of course, there are lots of people that fall between these two extremes. Whatever you are into, chances are, someone else at MSU is also into that. Most are from NJ, but there are international students too.
In Closing...It is a big school, but don't let that scare you. There is a club for everyone, and most classes are small. You won't be overwhelmed.
