In retrospect from abroad...

Rating: 3/5 (33 ratings)
Introduction
Straight sluts, do not apply. You'll die of vagina overload. Equestrians, beware. The team can be super cutthroat and cliquey... but that's what happens when you get 40 girls who are competing in an expensive individual sport in one place as a "team". Though some MHC students are extremely bright, you'll probably be shocked by the number of idiots in your classes.

Campus Life and Social Life
Not enough clubs... like where's a skiing/snowboarding club? They're FINALLY organizing intramural ultimate frisbee, but it's definitely not going to be as fun as coed frisbee. Parties tend not to be very large, and you have to go off campus for real parties. Plus the drinking age is 21, which totally sucks. M&Cs are great... as long as you have friends who will leave their work for a bit of a night time break.
Academics
There really isn't a great variety of science courses. If you're looking for organismal biology or zoology, don't bother. Student TAs for labs tend to be iffy. Workload, depending on your classes, can be pretty hefty. Note that even though science classes have the same number of credits as humanities classes, you have way more class time and just as much work. Check the course catalog to make sure that there are enough courses that will interest you for 4 years that are still being offered...

Student Body
Well, there are lots of vegan lesbian hippies. There are also a lot of the rich girls who wear their UGG(ly) boots with miniskirts and aviator glasses. But it is pretty easy to find a fair amount of down-to-earth, intelligent women who will go places in life. Most students are okay about going to meals in pyjamas, not wearing makeup, building snowmen, and basking in the sun (with or without clothes... though a lot of the ones who take their clothes off are gross). It's not a bad experience at all, but if you plan on going abroad, remember that the return will probably be painful.

In Closing...
It all depends on your priorities. Visit, do an overnight (not during preview times if possible so you can get a taste of the real life at MHC, and the real dining hall food), sit in on classes, talk to profs... Everything you can if you're seriously considering MHC. Make sure that it's right for you, because it's not right for a lot of the students here.
