Not a Great Social Scene
Rating: 1.7/5 (6 ratings)
IntroductionIf you're going to come here, you have to be liberal. It's not an option. It's a requirement. Unless you're used to seeing lesbians making out on the green, this isn't the place for you. It's an awesome place. I really never feel outshined by the Lesbians, nor am I bothered by their presence. Here, they're just people. Besides, straight girls are the majority on this campus. If you want to be challenged, come here. If you want to make a difference, come here. If you want to be heard, come here. Forget the whole "OMG WOMENS COLLEGE GAY" stereotype and live for yourself. Do you like this school? Visit, find out, apply, get accepted, enroll.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe social life is terrible. Although it may seem that us straight girls are in the minority, we're not-- we're just not as vocal. Besides, Amherst is where the real goods are. Want to get shit faced drunk? Go to UMass. Need a one nighter? Go to Amherst. We make it work.
AcademicsProfessors are very accessible. TAs are rare but nice, and the workload is HARD SHIT. If you can't deal with hard work, don't come here. They live up to their reputation. We're in an era where we can go online and find out who the awesome professors are. Fortunately, I have made use of this technology and have excelled in very difficult classes. It's not hard if you try.
Student BodyThere is no typical student here, sadly. I guess there is one word that would loop us all together: vocal. Liberal and conservative alike, we voice our opinions. I think the one thing you notice here is how diverse students are. In comparison to a NYC public school, it may seem like it's lacking, but compare it to anything else, and you'd think you were at an airport.
In Closing...This is the perfect school for pretty much any female from the Northeast. Californians are welcome too. I'd also like to say that while we may have a farly high acceptance rate, it's rare to find students who don't belong. Most of the students here are smart-- some may slack, but all are gifted. It's the one thing I love about this campus-- you feel smart from the moment you step on it.
